bubbling alloys

Hi guys,

Work on my newly purchased zed is to commence soon, and to start with the alloys seem to be a right 'stain' to the car.

I have the original penta alloys which comes with the 3.0i, but there seems to be a lot of bubbling on the alloys - I've seen a few zeds with this problem.

I'm considering refurbishing them - how long are the alloys to last once refurbing them, and also what colour should I go for, for a black zed?

Thanks in advance

not sure if u can tell from the pic

"penta alloys " :? the BBS 108 star alloys ?
Ive split & refurbed around 15 sets of these , great once done especially silver outer/ black star but can be a real pita to get the 80 bolts without rounding or shearing & then you are into real pi55balling about territory
From experience the only refurb i would bother with is full blast & powdercoat all surfaces ( taken apart first of course )

As above. Corrosion is a big problem with 108's. The outer lip is polished, I believe. Over time, water, salt and general road muck tarnishes the surface and manages to ruin the look of them.

They will need professionally refurbishing. I think with split rims, you'd need to add at least 100 quid, possibly even more, to the cost of a normal refurb as it's a labour intensive job.

I've run 108's for about 8 years on my Zed.
Done every combo of colours, finishes, and paints.
My suggestion:
Wet paint and lacquer the star
Silver mirror coat outer lip
Black powder coat inner barrel

Choose own colour. I'd stay silver on a black Zed for some contrast

Expect them to last 3 Summers and 2 winters before they go again. Without powder coating 1 year, under normal use

£100 corner is about the rate.

Thanks for that, I assumed they were penta due to the 5 spokes...

How much should I be looking at for this?

For a company to split them , refurb them & bolt back together id be braced for around £300/£400 on the set  worth it though as they always look good on Z roadsters

Mine have lasted around 3 1/2 years so got 3 summers out of them but will be getting them done again after this winter.
