BT performance options

Hi out there.
Is there any noticeable sound or usability difference between the two options of fruity car cables or the German eBay seller (https://ebay.us/JNoJW3)?

Thanks for your opinions.

Not sure about those options but I have just installed the below, £12 on eBay, sound quailty for music streaming on Spotify is spot on, good range on base and treble. It also comes with the mic for audio calling which has not dropped out since I have used it and comes through both ends clear. Routed the mic to the steering column and fits fine. Plug and play in the back of the head unit. Uses Bluetooth 5 so up to date.

Volume controls work from the steering wheel but you need to answer calls from your phone same as the other two options I believe

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure if you can answer this question, but what is the connector block adapter for? The BT connection like this one:
bt1.JPG
Only needs a 3 pin connection to the back of the unit via connector 'C' (plus the requirement of finding a power and ground line), but the one in the link you provided seems to employ the main connector block as well?
bt2.JPG
Do you think it's because it uses the power from the block or is there something else?
Before you ask, I don't want to be using another block adapter as I already have one behind my radio, so there is no more space.
What I'm hoping to do is buy the one you provided the link to and just use the 3 AUX pins and find my own power and ground lines.
Do you think this is possible?
Last question, (and this may be part of the solution) do you need to be in AUX mode before you make or take calls?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Yes this adaptor uses the Aux on the head unit which is what the connector is for, 3 pins and you need to be in Aux mode to listen to music and make calls. The two wires in the main connection are power and ground so yes you can snip these off and get from elsewhere if you want to source someplace else and can just plug in the aux connection.

I actually snapped off the power and ground and soldered them again with some heat shrink for a better connection. If you already have a connector block in there should be easy to take the power and ground feeds from the same location on your block.

OK, that's great. Thanks for the info. Do you have phone prep? What I'm wondering is that I can use the car phone to take receive calls, and the BT to simply play music. This is where I'm about to show my ignorance. Can I buy the unit as above (with the mic), and choose not to use it for calls, but sometime in the future, or as I wish, then 'turn' on the feature through the phone?

Umm not sure I do not have phone prep in my car so only use this unit for music and calls, I guess as long as your phone/car allows multiple Bluetooth connections at the same time then it would be ok as the call would come though and I guess you could choose which device to answer the call on, but I am unable to test this.

10 mins to cut a hole in the cowling above the steering wheel and you can reach through to the stereo area and pull the cable through easy enough.

Cool, thanks for the info. How long did the unit take to get to you?

Actually, found this a good resource today:

Also, made this up. I gather that a bluetooth module can be fitted to either block B or C. It's your choice whether to give up AUX or CD changer:

Actually no I tried it in the CD changer slot and changed the pins around to match the correct input signals so it should have been setup correctly as I wanted to test if the forward and back worked on the cd changer steering controls but it didn’t. Only works in the Aux slot I’m afraid :|

If you do by some chance get it to work on yours and can use the steering controls to skip tracks let me know because that would be 👍🏻

Oh, OK. I'll have a go. In a PM I got from Mau, he said if you use block B you need to pull the CD changer fuse (number 48). Maybe that's the key? I've seen a video where some guy connected to AUX and experienced some 'interference', but what that interference is, I'm not sure. I was guessing static or the like, but it could be something else?

Ah now that could be the key, was not aware of fuse 48 but not sure I can be bothered to rip it all out again, it’s been out about 5 times in the past week painting the nav back cover and replacing knobs and heater controls and only juts back together again 😅

But if you are going to have a go at the CD changer one be really interested in your findings. I have zero interference using the Aux on mine, only reason to change for me would be if the tracks forward and back work if using the cd changer option

Ha! You sound like me. Furloughed? My IP's been apart for weeks and weeks whilst I wait for a wrap to come. Last week I pulled out the console in prep for the console wrap and also to see if I can feed power directly from the battery to my amp (up front). I've since decided I'll tap into fuse 15 as I don't have heated seats. I also bought an underseat sub to mount to the back wall. Where is that wrap????

Thankfully not furloughed but working from home has its benefits
Know what you mean about waiting for stuff, since the lockdown my bank balance on car parts has taken a hit, been waiting for my Rieger front bumper to arrive from Germany for the past 4 weeks and I think today is finally the day of its arrival 🤞

Hi, so I got my adapter, and bought the unit with the block B wiring and pre-wired taps for power.

I fitted it into my loom and pulled fuse 48 (as suggested by Mau) but there was a problem whereby when I was playing BT music, I could hear the CD player trying to load or attempt to play the loaded CD. It also wouldn't eject the CD properly. So today I put the fuse back in and all is good. it seems they have updated the compatibility with the BMW system.
Lastly I ditched the microphone that came with the unit as it was quite large. I bought a small one similar to what comes with Pioneer units and fitted it up behind the A pillar (which incidentally comes off very easily) and ran the wire down and behind the steering column.

Looks great so to confirm if you put onto the cd changer input connection it all works fine if you have fuse 48 installed? Also having it in this way can you skip tracks on the steering wheel or is it just the volume that works, skipping tracks would def make me strip it all out again and switch the pins over?

Oh great that’s an added bonus will switch mine round to cd changer input tonight as it would be good to have a fully functioning steering wheel! Thanks for the testing
