The value for money equation was all wrong on the 2-litre 4-pots.

This one may well be the same. Who knows what the price will be, but it'll certainly be £30k at least.

the current Toyota is around £30K so i would expect this to be minimum £35K.

So around the same price as a 28i Z4 - which is also a 2L 4 pot - but will be much more fun to drive.....

I actually love the GT86 - the lack of power wasnt too noticeable - as i found it surprisingly torque - was expecting it to be quite limp... this will be really very promising... subaru power in a better looked RWD shell :driving:

I'd be amazed if they did it for £35k as I would imagine the car will need quite a bit of work to handle such a power increase. It's set up to be lively with almost 200bhp.

I like the whole GT86/BRZ thing and am interested to see how this turns out. If they do it the tuning potential will be crazy.

Don't get too excited, I think the STi is Subaru's answer to the GT86 TRD, which is just body kits and wheels and sells for @£30 to £32k. Not sure a turbo is the right thing for this engine as it was designed as a shorter stroke high revving unit, not the typical longer stroke Subaru units. It is a misconception that it is a Subaru engine, basically, the bottom end is, the rest is Toyota's idea. It has a bore of 86mm, and a 7500 rev ceiling, making it more suitable to supercharging ( which Toyota have done in the past). I am lucky enough to have a GT86 as a company car, and whilst it is an amazing little car, there is a little "summat" missing. Maybe I've been spoilt by having a 3.0 Z4 for 5 years and now a 911 C4S (996 flavour),but there's a bit of theatre missing from this car. To be fair to the car, my preference is for more than 4 cylinders, but it is quick enough, handles brilliantly, is responsive, is light and agile, with perfect ergonomics, so I can't see why I am not 100% sold. If I didn't have anything to compare it to, it'd be amazing, but I have. Would I choose it over a Z4 28i, most definitely, it's a completely different car, a proper small engined sports car, the new Z4's are not sports cars, they are GT / cruisers. Perhaps I should bring along to a Z meet and see what you all think. :D

I was under the impression that the STi was cosmetic only as well, that's certainly what the first report I saw claimed a few months ago. However, this article does seem to be quite sure of itself in its 300bhp turbo claim. I suppose if it turned out to be a crock of s**t it wouldn't be the first time someone getting paid to write about cars turned out not to know what they were talking about.

Thats what i thought... TRD for toyota generally is just pretty (was for the celica) but STi in the scoobies has ways = turbo!

Given the agreement between Toyota and Subaru on this car (Subaru are only allowed 1BRZ sale to every X number of GT86 sold). I would be very surprised if Toyota had left the door open for Subaru to produce a massively more appealing version unless they have something similar or better.
