Broken suspension spring?

Hi guys. I'm having a bit of a shocker with my Z'd at the moment.

It seems the car loves to scrape on everything and it's running standard suspension, not lowered or owt (at the moment)

If I'm driving down a motorway and hit a little dip, the car will scrape, it will scrape on every speedbump i hit and I rolled over a stone the other day and I swear it scraped on that bad boy also.

My other concern is, when I go up a sharp bump (say where the kurb dips to get onto the driveway) I have to turn right into it so the drivers side wheel hits the bump first and feels nice and soft, then the passenger side hits it and it feels like i've just hit a concrete block at speed, not at all soft and makes a crunch noise.

And my other conern is, when I'm braking from 30mph + the car feels like it's being twisted to the left, then I let go of the brake and it pulls itself back in line. I had my BMW guy look at it and says everything is straight and true and the shocks are all good but he said after measuring it, the car is 15mm lower on the drivers side?! WTF right

Can anyone shed any light cause my mechanic said the only thing he can suggest is changing the springs but he can't guarantee that will fix the issue.
 
Hi, It certainly sounds like it's a broken spring or a weak spring, was the measurement taken at the front ? you are probably aware that the rear springs are a known fault with these, but they're easy to check, especially for a mechanic ..good luck !
 
Well, the I can't feel any issues with the back, plus that wouldn't make the front scrape would it?

The measurement was taken on each front corner of the car.

I think i'll just get the springs replaced and see if that helps. Mine is a 2003 3.0 roadster, do I have the sport springs?
 
If your guy checked it out, it wouldn't be a broken spring - else he surely would have spotted that.

Chances are that in it's past it's had a broken spring, and someone's replaced it.
If your car is the 3.0, and they've replaced it with a non-sport spring - or vice versa - then this may have caused it?

yep. It is my understanding that ALL 3.0 z4's came with the sports suspension.
 
great, i'll get some springs ordered!

Would this also be the cause for the car pulling to one side on braking? It's not like a pull when the disc / pads are worn or warped, it feels like it twisting not directly pulling me to one side.

yes that could cause it to dip on the left when braking !
 
Has a "Sport" spring been replaced accidentally with an SE (softer, not lowered) spring?

Due to a mix up, I ended up with one SE and one Sport spring on the rear of my zed. Handling went to pot, and it didn't feel planted at all.

I'm now replacing all springs

Cheers all, just went to see my BMW guy and got the car booked in for new sport springs on the front. He also told me the pass side wishbone bushes were shot to s**t, why also may have a factor in the handling and clunky suspension, so going to get them done also.

Nice expensive month ahead.
