Broken Headlights e85 and e86

Hi all,

So there’s been a few posts for people wanting replacement lights recently... so I guess something is wrong with your original lights!

I’m after a few internal components for my spare set of headlights and maybe outer shells as well (I’m modifying mine). So interested in any and all lights. If there are any broken (facelift) clear lights about then that’s a bonus but happy considering anything. I must stress I’m after damaged or broken lights. I’m not after mint second hand lights... Cheaper the better! :D

Might even help clear some space in your shed or garage! :)

If you’ve split lights before and have parts let me know what you’ve got, as I said I’m interested in some internal parts too.

Thanks in advance

I just want to say, that the general believe is that the E85 headlights can not be opened unless you cut them. Recently I've been cleaning mines and looks like any other headlights out there, the only difference that I could find is that these have 4 small nails that hold the plexiglass together with the case, and not just the black silicone, if these have passed inadverted could be the reason why people couldn't open them up. Just saying in case you want to try to open them, I would have give it a try, but I had to fit them on the car so didn't have the time to do so.

there has been extensive attempts made to split these lights but trust me all fail except to cut really wish it was less evasive but it's not and can be messy :tumbleweed:

Thanks for the updates guys.

I'll be removing some sections internally (you can reach most items). To remove the orange "hockey stick" thats a cut and shut job. I've specially ordered a multi-tool for that job (about time I got one anyway in all honesty).

I've replied to a few PM's. ErrErrminator keep me posted.

My box of Zed bits contained the following headlight parts (pic):

One drivers/off side facelift headlamp casing with clear hockey-stick and rear cover in place, stripped of its innards. Good condition. Was originally a xenon unit I believe.

One loose projector unit of unknown origin.

One reflector insert with some of the silvered finish worn in a small patch.

If any of this is of interest let me know and we’ll talk money. :)

Interested in the headlight casing if kis doesn't take it

you are correct - I've made a DIY guide on the here (https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=100058) about cutting them open. I've since made myself a newer set and cut them open again.

I actually got my multi tool because of your thread IAmOrion! I was thinking of using a Dremel type tool, then decided an oscillating head on a multi tool would be the way to go! I guess we've both got your dad to thank!

Haha - yup, I bought a decent Ryobi one - SOOOO much easier and a damn sight quicker than using a Dremel :)
