Broken cupboard light switch!

The plastic tab at the bottom of the console door cover has broken off. This switches off the cupbaord light when the door is closed. Without it the light seems to stay on even when everything else is off. Has anyone else had the same problem and if so what was the solution. I am thinking that the easiest thing would be to remove the bulb and forget about it.
 
Can you modify the switch so it stays off? It will flatten your battery so you're right to try and disconnect it.

Mine also broke, I remove the door and used plastic padding to refix the little tab which actuates the switch. Good as new :D
