afternoon all,

my front discs have started to squeak quite alot recently and look to be getting very low, so I have decided to change discs and pads, the local indy wants 260 + vat, which seems a bit steep to me considering that i can buy Pagid parts for 60 quid, so i have decided to have a crack at doing them myself, iv not done the brakes before but im lead to believe that front discs and pads are not overly difficult, has anyone done their own ? or know of a good how to? also if the brake pad sensors have not gone off yet are they usuable with the new pads or will i need to buy new sensors regardless?

Very easy as long as you've got a decent trolley jack and some axle stands.The sensors should be no problem, just unplug from the old brakes ands plug them into the new ones. It took me and a mate just over an hour to do all 4 rotors and pads.
 
You will need two of you but its not very difficult. Pagid are excellent :thumbsup:

Im sure there are how too videos on the net, try searching for a 3 series brake change or similar on youtube.

Out of interest why will it take two people to change the discs and pads?? Unless you mean to bleed the brakes afterwards?

Strange - never had 2 people do my brakes in all the time. Pads, disks, calipers, bleeding, etc.
Comes with having 2 daughters and a wife - fat chance of any help

Andy - don't attempt the rears (not that art this stage you mention it) until you have done the front and comfortable with the process. They are a little more complex in that you have to loosen off then readjust the handbrake shoes that are inside the top hat of the rear disks. Bit fiddly for a first timer.
 
if you plan on using the sensor again be very carefull with it when your remove it, they are made from thin brittle plastic and are very easy to snap if they are a bit stuck. this i learned from experience, although a new one from the dealer was about a tenner.
