Brake service

I just got my Z4 back from having the dragging belly pan repaired ($240!!). I was told that I needed brakes. OK, I'm at 45K, I've had the front pads replaced under warranty but I am not experiencing any problems such as a pulsing pedal or steering wheel shimmy while braking. The estimate was $950. It seems high if I just need pads. Does BMW recommend rotor replacement too at my mileage? I thank you for your input in advance.

Much depends on how you drove the 45k, but I would not be surprised if you needed new rotors. They should be replaced if the are thinner than the specs. stamped onto the edge, or are heavily scored. (I've seen the specs. on the board somewhere if you do a search) It would be easy enough to ask the dealer for the reason for replacement and exactly what they are doing for $950, which sounds a lot of money, so perhaps includes calipers??

Equally no reason you could not have them fitted by an indy using OEM parts if you are in warranty

My car is getting new front rotors (or brake discs for the uk contingent), the rear ones and pads were replaced a few months back. The car is on its second set of front pads and have about 4mm left but the front discs are beyond minimum wear thickness and are a little bit juddery. You only get ~1mm wear from each face of the disc so any appreciable lip on the edge and it may be worth checking the thickness with a gauge.
