Brake Pads

Time has come to replace the brake pads on my ///M

Any suggestions as to what others are running and what they make of them or am I best sticking with the OE pads for around £100 a set??
 
I like EBC Yellowstuff and Bluestuff NDX, as they're better than OEM for about the same price, without be overly dusty or noisy.

I wouldn't go for Green or Redstuff though as I've read of other on here who've had issues with them.

Other good pads are Ferodo DS2500/3000, Pagid RS 4-2, or Carbon Lorraine - assuming you want to spend £200+.
 
I put yellowstuff on with new discs but only kept car for a couple of 1,000 miles afterwards. Was an improvement over original discs and pads which has worn out together in around 26k. I'd always thought discs should see out several sets of pads as these are the cheaper component but it didn't happen in my case with the original factory stuff.

Steve 220 might have a view on the yellowstuff pads now, he's run some serious horsepower in the past that I assume also needed to stop pretty well!!

i have been looking at the EBC yellowstuff pads like, just thought the compound might be quite harsh and eat through discs? or is that a myth? :roll:

They are harder on discs than OEM pads, but that's the compromise you have to live with if you want higher friction material/pads.

Although saying that, I've just replaced my discs after 43,000 miles 1 set of yellows and 1/2 set of blues (and I've got a new set of blues to go on with the new discs).
 
I knew they would be harsher on the discs but just didnt know to what extreme. that sounds like a fair lifespan for discs then at 43k, im on 37k at the mo with OE pads only ever being installed.

so would you recommend bluestuff over the yellowstuff as you've had experience of both....

For my driving style, then I'd go for the Blues, but remember they're a track pad and work best when hot. They'll stop you in an emergency, but the initial bite might not inspire confidence - so sometimes I'll double-pump it very quickly to heat them up, and then press the pedal to the floor. Although I don't remember the last time I've felt ABS kick in.

So if you're not doing lots of weekend hoons, trackdays and 'Ring trips, then I'd stick to the Yellows.
 
Have to say the OEM disks & pads I think are a brilliant compromise of bite, dust & noise.. if you do go any denser you'll get the inevitable odd squeal which you may not want.

I've put Pagids into my APs & I like them so far :)

BMW pads are fine for general road use, but buy them from ECP for £80 (or £60 if you use the 'PARTS25' code at checkout), instead of BMW for £110.
 
pagid from eurocarparts work well and hardly any of that dreaded brake dust :thumbsup:

Yellow stuff will be fine, I've had the disks on my car tinted blue because of the heat produced, but the stopping power is excellent.
 
My Indy in Telford swears by Bosch pads for all his BM's so I put them on with the new discs. IMO they feel great, soft enough to give a nice initial bite without any running in. Only been on a couple of weeks but I like them

Which Bosch pads were fitted?

They do crap/OE level ones all the way to 'ultra' ones for 'the harshest of drivers'.

Only has BP252 on box containing rears. Must have thrown front box away sorry.
