Brake pad and disc brands

Hi all. The time has come for me to replace my pads and disks on my 2003 BMW z4 2.5i. I have been looking through euro car parts and carparts4less and have seen quite a few different brands. After a google search on the subject I have learnt that people have had problems with PAGID and that EBC are total crap. I have not heard a lot about Bosch or the other brands. I am looking for good quality parts. does anyone known who makes the OEM pads and discs?

I think jurid and pagid supply oem pads but have to say I have been running Ebc redstuff on both standard discs and drilled grooved discs for almost a year now and they are brilliant, little dust and great stopping versus original.
 
the Pagid discs and pads are great for the Z4, I fitted them when I first got mine, never had any issues and the pedal feel and overall stopping was great....

and ECP have 50% off this weekend too... 8)

Look for Meyle on eBay.

They are a high quality German OEM supplier of discs & other parts, though don't have the high price tag. Used the vented & solid discs on my 3.0 in anger, certainly did what they said on the tin...
 
On my 3.0 I had pagid discs and textar E-Pads from ECP - couldn't fault them. The E-Pads had a really solid feel on the pedal and very little dust (which is what they are designed for)

PAGID make good pads... at a price.

Red stuff pads are part ceramic and they wore exceptionally well
 
Ok thanks guys. Might go for Pagid then. I am only looking for replacements as I do not do any track days or anything like that right now. A brake upgrade would be nice though.

Pagid, Textar and Mintex are all part of TMD who make the OEM kit for BMW and other big manufacturers. I had Textar discs and E pads from EuroCP which have been excellent.

I think EuroCP and CarPartsFor Less may be the same company but they run different promotions so it's worth checking both.

yes they are, carPartsForLess were cheaper than ECP for me even with ECP discount
 
I have a 2.5i and I went for the ECP Pagid discs and pags and have am completely happy with them (no fade including a dozen or so Ring laps). The same will be going on the rear when I get round to it.

Tip - Make sure you have a decent 16mm ring spanner, as the caliper mounting bracket is very very tight. I tried a socket but that slipped off. The spanner seem to get better purchase and I used another spanner for added leverage.
 
Textar, ATE or Jurid are OE.

I would not bother fitting anything else personally.
 
Jurid tend to make a lot of the BMW brakes I've removed.. Ive fitted hundreds of sets and never had a problem. They look identical to genuine minus the BMW logo.

Textar are an OEM supplier for BMW (part of TMD who also make Pagid and Mintex)

Jurid are part of Bendix and make after-market OE Quality brakes.

ATE (Part of Continental Tyres) again are after-market OE quality.

Thing to remember is that OE after-market could theoretically outperform OEM parts but Euro regulations prevent any legitimate brake part performing by + or - 15% differently to original specification. So as long as it's a genuine Euro-stamped recognised make there is little chance that you will actually detect a difference in performance.
 
EBC I had were poor quality had to file them to sit in the caliper properly ,wont get them again.
 
Have heard/read of all the problems with EBC, but I'm on about my 10th set of yellows/blues (on my M5s and Z4MC) and not had a problem with any of them.

Never tried green or red though.
