Brake fluid replacement in the ///M

Anyone had their brake fluid replaced recently (2 year requirement)?

Interested what you paid at main dealer?

N.b got a similar thread going about coolant replacement.

As you can tell I'm approaching the clock symbol appearing on the dash. 11.10 - pressed the dash button to see this date today.

I was planning on getting this done with the Insp 1 in March 2011, when my 07 is 4 years old. But on doing a little research it's a 2 year cycle from manufacture not registration.

have mine changed at the dealer every 2 years, my cars an 07 so i had mine changed in 09 with its first service, i will next have it done in 2011 on the next service, i will also have my coolant changed, and the system flushed out, brake fluid is one of those oils that breaks down even when not used as it absorbs moisture. i will dig out my service sheet to find out how much i paid.

If system was not reset during the PDI when new the date from manufacture will be used, mine was built Aug06 and Registered in Dec06 and it's December when my indicator is displayed.

On my lasy car which was built Jan and registered Apr they didn't reset it but dealer honoured the April date

Speak to your dealer and see if they will allow you to delay.

Yeah - I should have added that mine has a September 2006 date of manufacture, but was not registered until Jan 2008.

Therefore the brake fluid change was due in Sept 2008, and this is what the clock said.

I bought the car in Oct 2008 and did not realise the fluid change had not been carried out until I checked the clock earlier this year  . So the fluid did more than three years.

Spoke to the dealer and they confirmed that it would not present any problems with the warranty, but would be worth having done asap to maintain braking efficiency.

So there shouldn't be any problems in delaying it until your Insp 1 is due as srhutch suggests. If this is the case you might be able to get it done as a job lot to save a few £££s (I seem to remember Sammyz posting recently to say that Bateman BMW did his fluid change for around £50 along with his Insp 1). But as srhutch has said, worth checking with the dealer to confirm.

srhutch.......The previous owner had the brake fluid changed in March 09 with it's 1st oil service, when car was 2 yrs old from registration. However as said the dash is saying 11.10, which must be it's 4 year anniversary from manufacture.
No idea why the main dealer the previous owner used, didn't reset the clock to 03.11!!

That said, I'll probably get the brake fluid & coolant changed next month (4 yrs from manufacture).

Just to spread out the overall cost instead of getting it added onto the Insp 1 bill in March 11.

Angus Mccoatup.....you reckon then the actual brake fluid change bundled into the Insp 1 (as a job lot) will work out cheaper for the Brake fluid job, than doing it separately?
If that's the case, I'll stick the money aside next month and tag it on the insp bill.

shiney, phone your local dealer and haggle, or at least phone two others as well and price match to cheapest. Should be able to do a better deal with all done at the same time though.

Had mine done at specialist at Stevenage on inspection 1 they never noticed in the log book it wasnt due so i asked why it was done , got it for free ! happy days cheers stealers ! :P they did want to charge £116 though in answer to your question

From looking at Sammyz' thread in the Dealer Feedback section it looks like Bateman BMW were prepared to do this. If I've managed to do this properly, here's a link to his thread:

If I've not done this right  , please accept my apologies and have a look at Sammyz' thread of 12 June in 'Dealer Feedback', which is currently 10th down from the top. Might give you some useful information to approach your local dealer with.

Cheers

Does the dash actually state you need a brake fluid change? If it says oil change 2000 miles dies that mean it needs the brake fluid done too? Its got 36 k on it and is an 06 plate.

Getting this done shortly, been quoted £90 including the 4yr discount, seems reasonable to me

Bit pricey. Mine was £78 on the M3 last year and that was without asking for any discount.

I had my Z4MC inspected at a BMW dealership before purchasing, and they did a 'mates rates' brake fluid change for £36... :o

spend 40 bills on good AP fluid.... and did the rest myself!!

job done to perfection with nice solid pedal and saved afew £s as well!!

I would do it myself and staple the fluid receipt to the brake fluid service box with a date. £119 for a fluid change was a joke. I got my R32 DSG done at VW for £25. Took them 30 min if that! The VW run the similar service intervals as BMW.
