Brake dust

Afternoon

Just given the zed her 1st wash, 1000 miles in a week certainly got her nice and dirty.

Have to say there was a hell of a lot of brake dust built up, especially seeing as how I've spent most of those miles on the motorway. Is this common on the m?

Excess brake dust is common across all Z4s. Uprate your pads.

And the new Z4 is worse!! They even say in the owner manual that some of the new driver aid technology will increase brake dust!! One (spirited) drive in mine looks like I haven't bothered cleaning the wheels!

I'm getting EBC Redstuff put on my fronts tomorrow.

Rears have loads left, so not touching them for now.

Standard discs are fine unless you're planning on tracking it - and even then you'll usually find any 'warping' is actually just pad material on the disc and a quick skim/sand or 1000 normal road miles will bring them back to normal.

I've used Pagid RS19/29 and Ferodo DS3000 in the past on my Corrado (AP brakes) and M5s, but I get a very good deal on EBC stuff (50% off) so I use EBC yellows now with standard discs.

How do you find the ebc yellows on day to day use? Would've thought they'd be a bit crap until up to temp?

I've run ebc greens in the past, and they were bad enough on a cold morning. Imagine Reds will be similar to the greens but rated a bit higher for increased power?

Seem to work from cold for me, but I do tap the brake pedal lightly before I come up to where I know there is a big braking zone. However they've never failed to stop in an emergency.

my Corrado

It was great (for a FWD car), but I missed being able to powerslide (rather than inducing lift-off oversteer). However it did frighten 911s & Mistubarus on track

Now, was that a 4 seat, 2 door hatchback, or a coupé :P

were a member of the CF (Corrado Forum) by any chance?

I've still got my C, am looking to sell it now :(

I was a member if the Corrado forum a long time ago, but I probably kept up posting for a couple of years after I got the M5, and then gradually posted/read it less and less.

I arranged a couple of trackdays for them through Bookatrack in

This is my old Corrado which was modified but not 'blown' and still managed to beat all the ones 'blown' by Nik Saran with supposedly 280bhp (mine only had 245).

And at Castle Combe in 2000 with the VR6 Club.

And at Bentwaters in 2001 once I'd got my M5.

And all because I wanted to do this...

i tried ebc discs all round and red stuff pads on my last car which was a impreza sti, prodrive.i have to say that i didn't like the pads, they didn't seem to work very well from cold, also they seemed to give excesive ware on the discs :( hardly any brake dust tho :D

haha.. Corrado! The new lady in my life is a full on Corrado fangirl!
She's currently got the VR6 in the rare violet colour.

For it's age, it's a nice looking car, and it actually suprised me how well it drove and the power it had!
(not that i'm allowed to drive it lol)
