Ok no flames just honest comments plz :)

Took a 03 2.7 for a spin, currently got a 05 z4 3.0, fancying either a z4m or boxster 3.4s

Seemed alot more balanced, and I thought the Zed was!
Around corners its way better, ok the 2.7 is under powered, i was testing the car idea rather than the package!
noise was so much lower, accepted I have runflats though!

Very tempting idea to go for a 3.4S, I think I would go for an M inspite of better handling etc, the boxster is deliberately hamstrung which is annoying, I have looked at a few options but honestly the Z4M is without question a performance car for little money with very few competitors on a bang per buck argument :)

Also the argument of the Zed you have to take it by the horns and drive it, and thats half the fun :)

I tried an 02 2.7 Boxster before buying my Z. It was OK, and a good price from a senior friend, but research suggested that an 03 facelift end version would be a better buy.

Not that keen on the looks or image of the car either, though it was ok to drive. Glad I went for the Z, there's not been a moment that I've regretted the decision.

You know you're asking on a z4 forum right? !

I prefer my Boxster to the zed. I've just about fallen in love with it.
Handles superbly even given the wet roads at the moment.
Saying that, I've never driven an ///M so can't compare.
I would have another zed in a heartbeat though but prefer the Porsche hands down.

If the Boxster had the Zed M's engine well!, buy buy !!!

Deffo the Z4M is the bargain performance car, but I was shocked how much better the Boxster handled :O

A friend of mine has a red 2006 3.2S Boxster - have to say it looks fantastic - the sound of the engine is to die for - the ride is low and hard but it sticks to the road like glue - he had a 3.0 z4 previously almost identical to my current 3.0SE - whilst he loves the Porker he still has a soft spot for the zed. He has however found the mpg to be shocking compared to the 3.0 zed although I presume the z4m would be similar ( barely 22mpg ) and he knows if it goes wrong it's going to cost !!! but then again the M is probably the same.

If I'm honest I prefer the Porker but as I've said before on a similar thread the zed suits me better because of my outlandishly tall frame - the Boxster is more suited for an average sized individual ( especially so a shortarse  no offence to any of you vertically challenged zedders out there )

When I bought my Z4 it was a toss up between a that or a Boxster S. I found the handling of the Boxster better but the car as a whole package is just a bit sanitised. In the end it was the 3 litre straight six howl that swung the decision, well that plus the total cost of ownership.

I still have a hankering for a Porsche though but maybe a 911 instead

I was close to buying a Boxster the main reason for not doing so was financial and the engines can die on some of them (something to do with a bearing going and loosing its oil) I was really shocked to hear about this reliability issue.

boxster has always had issues with the engines like all Porsche but get one full history and all mods done and recorded should be fine .my mind is m all ways much better .but saying that either 3.5 is or 996 turbo auto next for me .everyone to there own

Boxster 2.7 engines don't have any known IMS/RMS faults like the 3.4 or 3.6 (911 only) versions.......and even then it's only a small minority that have issues - I don't know anyone (and I know more than 100 owners) who've had any issues so there is a little scaremongering going on, but there is still an issue, but believe this normally manifests itself by 50k miles in ,most cases....

That said, buy a good one with history and it should be fine.,...

The 987 (05 on) 2.7 has more power too (240bhp) and is fine for most of our roads - although I had a 997 TT Cab with twice the power, I still like my Boxster which cost a 7th of the price (both were used too....)
