Both rear springs broken

Hi,

I was just checking my rear brake pads, and noticed both rear spring are broken...and looks like they've been like that for a while, that's why it wasn't handling very well around corners !!

Can anyone recommend a place to buy ? lots on ebay at varying prices , don't want anything special, just springs that aren't broken :D

I have a set of standard springs from my 2008 Z4 3.0si Coupe with 9,500 miles on them so in great condition. Not sure if these would be suitable for your model though :?

If your interested let me know as I'm selling them.

Tom.

Hi Tom,

yeah I'm interested, I'm not sure If they'll fit either, maybe someone can help ?? in the meantime I'll try to find out.

How much do you want for them ?

If its going from a 3.0si Sport to a 3.0i (or any pre facelift with M Sport suspension) I think it'll be ok.

If it's a 3.0si SE, the springs can only be fitted to pre facelift 2.5, 2.2 or 2.0 - provided that they weren't fitted with M sport suspension.

Hope I'm not wrong.

Hi,
thanks for your help ...mine is a 2004 2.2L no mods, so I think it's OK !

Fixit, can I ask, how you checked the springs, did you need to remove the wheels?

Hi, yes I had the wheel off to check the brake pads to see if I could get the light off, than I saw it.

I had checked them about a year ago because I was disappointed with the handling just after I bought it..they looked OK through the wheel and from the rear with a torch but I couldn't see the whole spring, guess they were broken all along :(

ah well at least that explains the handling, It wasn't terrible handling just not as good as I expected

Hi Adamski,
I think it's an SI at least that's what Tom put on his post ? does that make sense I'm not too up on the Se, SI sports thing !

thanks again

Thanks for advice, I will check mine at the weekend just to be sure all is well, as I have only had my 3.0 for a couple of weeks, although it had a BMW dealer service just before I bought it. So I will definitely check them !! :D

The 3.0si comes in two trim levels -

1. SE
2. Sport

The si is the engine designation :)

Not sure about fitting the coupe springs to a roadster, there is a variety of part numbers for OEM springs and these will be different. How much difference it makes is a different story...

Spring table is hidden in the ETK - under 'Parts Search - Specific - Spring Table'

for my car which is an 04 3.0 SE with MSport (as I believe they all are?) Part numbers are:

Front: 31336760622 or 3
Rear: 33536761925 or 6

... But it does ask you what options you have fitted (such as electric seats, SMG, Stereo system, Headlight cleaning)... some of those options seem to change the part numbers slightly :?

Edit: For example, screenshot here:

Mine is the si SE model so it sounds like they should fit fine

I take it you just want rears? as i have a full set for sale but will split if we can agree a price

Sent you a PM..

Just fitted the 2 rear springs, took 20 minutes easy job :) ....test drove it and it feels great, it's like a different car, looking forward to trying it in the wet now ! :driving:

Me too. one went off like a rifle shot, frightened the c*** out of me when it went, same thing some months later, I happened to be going past a Golf course, thourt I had been hit by a stray ball, developed a metallic rattle from the rear end took it into the garage, the guy didn't even have to look what was wrong, he says he does these all the time. How come BMW have an issue with such a common item ???????????????
