Bosch S5 or S6 replacement battery

Hi all. Think my battery has died as if I leave it for more than a couple of days not connected to CTEK charger it is totally flat What is the best battery if replacing, thinking of Bosch but will S6 fit and is it overkill on 3.0l? Any experiences good or bad.
 
I got an S5 from ECP using one of their discount codes - it may be overkill but it wasn't that much more than cheaper alternatives
 
The Bosch S6 is an AGM battery designed for vehicles with start/stop systems so is overkill for your Zed. The S4 range is an original equipment spec battery, the S5 range exceeds the original equipment spec. Either of these will be fine and a fraction of the cost of an S6. :thumbsup:
 
AGM batteries have a lower discharge rate than conventional batteries.

And yes, it may be overkill but more battery power isn't a bad thing necessarily. (Dare I say you may even consider replacing it with a smaller battery in size for some weight saving!)

These guys are worth a try, really good value and come with a 4 year warranty. I put one in my passatt and have had no problems so far, I will deffo use em again.
 
Thanks guys. Great knowledgible responses as always. Is it worth keeping with a brand name like Bosch?
 
Normally I would say go with Bosh but most batteries are pretty good these days. So long as the battery is the right spec then I,d go for VFM and a decent warranty.

Personally, I always buy Bosch batteries but I usually keep my cars long enough that the 5 year warranty is worth while - if you're only planning on keeping a car for a year or two, any reasonable battery should last long enough
 
I recently fitted a new S4 from Euro car parts using one of their promotional discount codes. My 2.5 6c fires up a treat on this.

Only issue I had was the small metal plate that sits directly under the positive side of the battery (left if your looking into the boot from rear) -Couldn't get the new battery to sit flat with the metal part in place so I left it out?

Anyone else have this issue?

Zmachine how easy to fit yourself? Will I need to reset anything? Or do any drop in tyre fitters sell Bosch.

Very easy to fit - you should find that the only thing that needs resetting is the clock

Just remember to remove the -ve first and reconnect it last. I always put small plastic bags over the leads as I disconnect them and add a smear of grease when I reconnect

Sorry for late reply..

It's quite straight forward just make sure you disconnect and reconnect the positive/negative in the right order -there are plenty of guides if you run a google search.

I also cleaned up the connectors with some wire wool, cleaned out the tray, and also greased around the connectors (once fitted) to prevent any corrosion. Bit OCD but that's just me.

The only issue I had was under the left side (if looking down at battery from rear of car) there was a small metal bracket (like a lever shaped flat piece). This goes at the bottom of the long screw and under one side of the battery. I tried to refit this piece but it lifted the left side of the battery up from underneath and stopped it sitting level. I don't know how it fitted beforehand but I tried every way it could go and couldn't get it to fit so I left it out. No movement of battery in tray so far so I've left it out for now.

Anyone else have this issue??

I mamaged to fit that bracket thing, took about 10 minutes though.

I got an s4 from eurocarparts. Can't be happier.

the new battery aswell as starter motor means my car fires up instantly. Well worth the money (60 quid battery & 65 for the starter motor).
 
I got an S5 from ECP with their discount code about 8 months ago. Superb part, overkill for a normal car but I have a fair amount of sound equipment in my car so wanted the extra power. You'd be sorted with an S4 or equivalent
