Booted it till it broke

During really heavy acceleration a strange thing happened.

x3 warning lights came on after the engine kind of stuttered. One was an engine management light EML another was a triangle yellow with a caution sign and a similar yellow triangle with quiggly arrow end with caution exclamation in middle display console.

Got to a set of traffic lights ......switched engine off and on......then the lights were gone.

Is this something i should be concerned with and take it to the stealers or should i just relax?

From what you have said, it sounds like the car was telling you the DME and DSC both faulted at the same time.

I would assume that either there was an issue with the DATA BUS the two use to talk to each other, or a sensor which is used by both DME and DSC faulted such as a wheel speed sensor.

The car will have stored a fault in both DME and DSC so if you get someone who knows what they are doing to look at it, they will be able to tell you what happened and perhaps recommend any action if required.

Thanks for the replies, today managed to get to work with no faults.

Driving home however......i got an "engine block" yellow symbol on display. Tried the on off trick but light remained on.

Booked in again with the stealers for this Tues with 2 weeks left of AUC which incidently in the last 2 months has paided for itself with 2 rear springs, sat nav aerial and lamdon sensor.

Might plug in my OBC reader tonight to check the fault codes.

Engine itself seems to run alright perhaps sounding a wee bit louder.

Well heres an update.....went to plug in my obd reader into the port right side under stearing wheel and guess what the part you plug into is gone.

The thing is it was there when i plugged it in last time before it went off to stealers so i could diagnose codes for lamdon sensor pre.

Since it was fixed i 2 months ago it was there ..........the stealers have removed it for some reason.

Dont know if it has fallen in...not by doing anyway.

Now the engine light has gone off!

Still booked in to stealers will mention the OBD port connectors missing hope this doesn't void my warranty in anyway, i know resetting the faults using obd port will void warranty work so could be risky mentioning it.

Light with squiggly lines is traction control, mine comes on at the exit of most roundabouts.

What tyres do you have? Mine hardly ever comes on even in the wet. It mostly comes on when the road is bumpy, rather than under acceleration!

Well expensive experience, got a flat rear drivers side and managed to crawl to BMW garage on Sunday and park it up without destroying the alloy. didn't bother with the gunk as heard the air hissing out when i was parking in drive way and reckoned i could get to stealers before totally flat.

Outcome x2 rear tyres £217 each micheline sp pilot sport 3's. Incidentally only managed about 5000 miles down to marker. = £434

Oil service due, was told when they looked at book it was the dreaded inspection 2 =£900

Initially problem faults turns out another lamden sensor pre cat side has gone and throttle valve motor =£ 600 (parts only covered by warrant with 2 weeks left ...phew)

Asked about the OBD port connector they never mentioned it 2nd call so phoned back and left a message for them to fix it.

These M sport cars are well expensive to run, but i guess if i bought a new car i would loose more in depreciation in the 1st year than the cost of getting it sorted. :driving:

I don't mean to upset you but PS3s aren't really what you'd ideally want on a Z4M. Pilot Super Sport or their equivalent would've been better.

Glad you've got most of your issues resolved under warranty.

Aye no bother dgm,

Next time i get tyres i'm going to do some proper research, something that may last a wee bit longer than 5000 miles.

How aggressively are you driving it to only get 5,000 miles out of them? Are you doing drift/track days too?

:P
