Boot seal for Z4 35i

Dear all,

I have a 2010 35i and noticed the seal at the top of the boot lid nearest the head rests has perished in two places. I believe the part number is 51767191265 on www.realoem.com

I have to say I fell off my chair at the price BMW wanted. Approx £450 special order from Germany and non returnable. Looking on alternative web sites it’s nearly as bad.

Has anyone else has this seal fail and where did you source a replacement?

Just some pics of the issue.

So need to confirm item No 4 on the schematic diagram is the right part if I have or order?

Please excuse as needs a wash!
Thanks in advance.

I picked one up off of a part-out of a 2016 35i wreck on Ebay when I saw it for $50 just to have a spare when I need it. You could go through several replacements of used seals before being able to justify that new price. Just Gummi Pfledge Stift it up. Look for the listings that have a lot of pictures to be sure you're getting a good part. You already know where they fail. 3M Black Super Weatherstrip and Gasket Adhesive will help hold any areas that previously relied on a film adhesive.

I just replaced broken seal from this https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1996606#p1996606 by salvaging it from a $68 broken part. Looks great, better than the damaged seal that it replaced!

Wrong part number not on that page.
But don't bother correct page still hundreds.
Look up rubber e seal.
Cross section like a small e.
Example;

Only if you have to bodge it.

That seal is pretty cheap looking material, surprised many more haven't failed.
