Boot release key fob

Something i rarely use is the key fob to open the boot.

Soon i need to replace the boot badge as it's cracking.
The constant pulling on it seems to have produced stress cracks.

Then i realised if i used the key fob, that would stop the load on the badge, when replaced.

I always thought the boot release on the key fob of the Z4 was pretty useless since you can't use it when the car is locked to open the boot without unlocking the rest of the car, which is how you can use it on every other BMW. I guess now we have good reason to use it! :)

I can open the boot w/o opening the rest of the car, I may have programmed it, don't remember

I wish the key fob did open the boot. It doesn't, of course, but only unlatches the lid, which isn't really helpful.

I doubt, however, that BMW designed the feature to stop the badge from cracking.

More likely, they had a 'house' fob and had to make the third button do something/anything on the E89. The boot lid is too heavy to be opened remotely without the use of an additional motor, which would have added weight & cost, so we're stuck with this silly device.

I never lift the boot with the badge, either pop it with the remote or badge and then lift the lid from its bottom edge So as not to strain the badge/handle.
It would certainly be more convenient to be able to open the boot while the car is locked, if anyone knows how please share.

I have tried every which way and I can't get the boot to unlock without unlocking the rest of the car first. If you can remember what you did it would be super useful. I don't understand why BMW did this in the Z4.

Come to think of it that is what I generally do too, lift from the bottom edge.
