I may add some springs with the aim of getting the boot to open on its own. For now though I'm very impressed at the difference these make, my boot lid now lifts all the way up once I lift it a little. The 10 year old struts were clearly past their best.

Well worth doing for £20 if you ask me.

Maybe worth a punt as mine hardly lifts at all now the boot spoiler is on.....
Cheers for the link..

I added those exact ones to my watch list earlier this week.

Have you fitted them yet? Do they operate to the same standard the original ones did?

Cheers

Fitted yesterday. No idea about the standard of the originals because they were clearly tired. With these, from about 1/3 open they lift the boot fully up. Before mine didn't open the boot lid fully at all.
For the money they are worth it - my only concern would be how long they last as they are unbranded, but they look of an equal quality to the OE ones I removed.

Next step will be experimenting with some springs to see if I can get the boot to open when unlocked.

Why? I cannot see the point in having the boot spring open allowing some passing toad to nick whatever is in there before you even get out the car. It'll also cause folks (like my wife...) to slam the boot harder and break the rear light.
I guess you could say that when loaded up with boxes it'll save trying to lift the boot..

I can't see theft being a worry, failure of the catch while in motion might be but only for contents falling out. I find I keep scratching the lid trying to open it when I don't have a completely free hand, I just don't quite see the point in a boot with no handle that only unlatches.
As for the brake light, I don't think anything is foolproof to stop those from going. It currently needs a firm push to latch, will look to see if I can adjust it to try and ensure it catches every time as I think that's the issue. Springs might actually make shutting more controllable with a more consistent force required.

The toad nicking items was a bit tongue in cheek.

Went through this whole discussion on an XF forum and in the end 50% preferred it to open 2" and the other 50% liked the feel of a smack of boot lid under the chin when approaching the car.

Was an each to their own 'draw'

Does however appear that most manufacturers don't make them spring right open.

Very interested to see how you get on with this I'd definitely like that, set off down the autobahn with my boot not properly shut last year so this would be a good way to avoid not doing it again....

And before anyone asks I didn't just forget to shut it, must have clumsily pressed the boot button on the remote by mistake

See my previous post ^^^^^

Personally I think it's stupid putting a button that allows it to be open but not enough to realise....

In fact why the feck even have a button that can allow you to lock your keys in the car, never actually done that one but it still bugs me

What annoys me more is listing for such a stupid price when out of stock. Why not just put what stock you actually have in the listing.
