Boot badge fallen off - kind of

My 2003 Z4 boot badge has fallen off. Well, not the actual badge. But the recent frost has caused the coloured film type stuff to flake off. The other day I went to my car and noticed this curled up crispy bit on the floor behind the car with the BMW logo etc on it. The actual badge is still on the boot, but it is now just plain silver with nothing on it.

Called BMW, they want £22 plus vat for one.

So, can anybody tell me, if I buy one off eBay for a fiver, is it the same thing?

Second, there are different types on eBay, plain self adhesive ones, and ones with two prongs sticking off the back, which is it and how do I remove the old one?

I got an official BMW boot badge to put over the plastic naff one under my bonnet in the engine compartment for £13 I think. Just make sure It is an official BMW one. The stealers will always try to rip you off. My M was de-badged when I got it and hoped they would replace the badges as a good will gesture. Nope charged me a whopping £120. Suffice to say I went mental.

You want the ones with the prong. Get a piece of thread and thread it behind and you should be able to pop it off

The new one just presses on, be careful not to press the middle of the badge tho because you could put a dent in it with a small amount of force.

I like your one under the hood. Is this the plain flat type with a self adhesive back. I'm taking it there were no prongs on it?

No the OEM rounded BMW emblem designed for the Zds boot lid. It came with the prongs so I just dremeled them off and stuck it down with some double sided 3M tape (extra strong). I found out it was the same size as the boot badge from BMW, but ordered the badge and it is slightly too big so if you were to do it I would get the slightly smaller size. Not too much of an issue but would be a snugger fit. This badge was 82mm in diameter. But ye looks really nice when you open the bonnet. My previous car had one and when I got the Z4M it was the plastic.. so assumed the previous owner had done it and wanted the same effect.

Just ordered 63mm wheel version, see:
