Boost a E86 to 300HP?

The E86 3.0si got 265HP, is it possible to get it to 300 without installing in a turbo? And what is needed if so? :-?

With a suitable budget anything is possible... But with off the shelf mods no, not really.

Yep, with a supercharger...

In all seriousness it might be possible, but you'd have to work on so many elements of the engine it would almost certainly cost more than a turbo or supercharger.

You could get to 300bhp with all naturally-aspirated methods.
- Wilder cams
- Big-valve head
- Lightened pistons
- Lighter crank
- Lightened flywheel
- Bigger throttle body
- Alpha-N map
- Carbon intake
- De-cat
- Gutted/aftermarket exhaust
- Etc.

However, I went own this route on my VR6 (190-230bhp & 185-244lbft) and it cost me as much as a stage 1 supercharger conversion would have. In all (including £5k for new wheels, tyres, AP brakes & suspension) I spent the better part of £12k.

I'd supercharge it - after all a 20% increase isn't stretching it - and it's probably easier to return it to stock should you need to, or to increase the boost once you get used to 300bhp :P

I'm not sure if there are any supercharger kits available for the N52 engine though...

I bet that would be quicker than an M. The 3-litre is quite a bit lighter than the M, and so with 321 horses and probably quite a lot more torque it would shift!

Wow... I thought the n52 wasnt particularly suitable to FI, with it being rather weak and highly strung.

Be great to hear how reliable it is.

people have produced n52 kits...and many have been reported to end in tears (notably Arma's kit).

op, if you have big deep pockets and are after the whole wolf in sheep's clothing then look for a written off e60 m5.

It's now about 7 years since the Z4 coupe launched ... and in that time, it's actually quite surprising how much faster cars have gotten. Lots of bimmers are now doing sub 5 seconds 0-100km/h times. A VW Scirocco does it in 6secs ... a Polo GTI in about 7 secs ... and these are really quite inexpensive cars by comparison. So, I wouldn't be conceptually adverse to some under-bonnet mischief.

The thing that I am worried about is that many of the tune-ups seem to produce increased total kW with main benefits above 100km/h ... which might be fine if you are tracking ... but not much use if you have to keep it street legal.

Pretty sure many owners who have had their cars mapped state better drivability with what power is there.

You need one of them super chip thingys, with an induction kit and a decat. My mate Del Trotter sells them for £200. Guaranteed 30bhp gain. Throw in an exhaust and filter and you'll be pushing well over 300bhp

you guys are quoting mentalist money... all you need is one of these and you will be up to 330bhp and better consumption. fitted in under 1min... and best of all its plug and play so when you bend it just whip it out and the insurance wont know!

i recon for 97 quid you could fit 3 or 4 in series and get 120% more power!

The problem with these chippie things is ... where are the independent reviews of it with documented/measured 0-100km/h times against stock?

You'd be mad not to buy one. 30% extra power guaranteed

Looks like a George Agdgdgdgdgwengo special:

"RACING ELECTRONICS is well known name between tuners. Founded in 1991 with birth of first modified Ford Cosworth engine. Since electronic fuel injection showed numerous benefits over carburator it became obvious there are numerous solutions for increasing as much as fuel efficency as actual power of engine. Now they offer mostly tuning kits to increase power of stock or already tuned engines. What differents RE tuning kits from other is PLUG&PLAY compatibility. Alternative to tuningbox is reprograming of ECU but that is danger to itself while rewriting of data will eliminate possibility of returning car to previous state (key code, enviroment coding, fuel injectors adaptations... ). Tuningbox eliminates all problems and focuses directly on power increase. RE tuning kits are top of the line product that will deliver promised and even more..."

Yes those "electronics" could all be lost with existing ECU. Much better to pop some plastic wires on it for rocket booster results.

Or just slap a bunch of M badges all over it...

ive been looking at the race electronics website and they are totally legit.... you cant go wrong.
