Bonnet badge for 2003 E85 3.0

Hi all,

I've seen a couple posts about the bonnet badge (the threads are 5 years old now) and after lots of back and forth I decided to buy an 82mm BMW badge for the bonnet of my Z4. It is the wrong fit, and I thought I'd share my findings here.

Below is the original 70mm bonnet badge (I don't know why I didn't measure it before I bought the 82mm)

This is the new 82mm I bought from amazon. The 'prongs' at the back are the same distance apart as the 70mm but because the badge is much bigger it doesn't sit in the groove on the bonnet.

You can see the size difference here

Here is where the badge sits on the bonnet

And this is the rear of both the badges (70mm on left, 82mm on right) you can see the prongs sit the same distance apart.

For reference here is the new 82mm badge next to the rear (boot) badge - they are identical in size and shape.

In summary: I need to find a 70mm badge (white and blue) to replace the front bonnet badge, but I simply can't find one. Not even on BMW's own parts website. So I either get a fully adhesive one in black and white which I can find on eBay, or I make do with the one I already have. If anyone has any ideas where I can get a 70mm white and blue badge from please do let me know.

Hope this post helps someone out!

Thanks :)

Genuine OEM BMW roundel £37 (ouch!) through Ebay. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F180946799495

Christ  in answer to your question, BMW definitely stock the 70mm badge as i bought one from the dealers last year.

You can also buy a 73mm badge that fits with a little modification

Just bought one on ebay. 74mm part no 51 148 132 375. £3.95. pins fit but if you don't have the grommets you will need strong double sided tape or silicone etc.

Or go to ebay.de and get the right size (70mm)

They don't rip you off so much for a 'rare' bage over there.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/BMW-R-Origin...016753?hash=item1ece59e531:g:my4AAOSwaMpZpW~P

Still not cheap but genuine and half the price with delivery that people are asking for over here.

It is used though so should be cheaper.

Used on ebay UK is £65.99 :?

People are just lazy and stupid and think Ebay will always be the cheapest.
The link above by Patriot shows a new one at £37 in the UK.
And there is other ones if you look at similar items that are as low as £32.95

I'm simply providing an alternative link for someone that could be interested. A fair few people won't mind it being used... it's no different. Soon your 'new' one will become used... they don't stay new for long.

Not sure why you're determined to make a point but each to their own.

BTW I got mine much cheaper on .de than the one I linked to, they come and go... it's about looking at all your options and I provided one.

You being serious?
You provided a link as did someone else before you.
They provided a link to a new one, you provided a link to a used one.
I was pointing out it was used, you might not have noticed.
Then you try to back it up by saying that they are more expensive here by posting links to other used badges (which 2 of them are the wrong size) and ask if I have a point??
Now you are pointing out grammar mistakes on a car forum.
Get a grip.

You referred to people as 'lazy' and 'stupid' then trip yourself up with a 'stupid' use of English gramma.

Your posts were intentionally confrontational rather than informative, and as far as I'm aware... I still posted the cheapest link, used or not. Though I'm sure you're busy scurrying around trying to find anything that you can to prove me wrong again.

My comment was intended to be helpful. You just seem to have a bee in your bonnet.

You seem to have grabbed the wrong end of the stick and are trying to defend yourself.
I was pointing out to you that the item you linked to was a used part, you might not have noticed. The person looking for one might not notice either until it landed on their doorstep with marks on it.
Surely pointing out that it is used is informative?
The lazy and stupid comments were not directed at you but to everybody who buys anything and thinks Ebay will be the cheapest without looking elsewhere.
You have decided that I was being confrontational, look back all I said was that it should be cheaper as it was used.
If I really wanted to I could actually post a cheaper used badge but what would be the point, I am not trying to wind you up.
I hope I have spelled everything correctly this time.

In fact no I'll sneak a bit more time.

I apologise if I got the wrong end of the stick, however... you're comment was "It is used though so should be cheaper". To me that's a little condescending. A simple 'It is used though' would suffice.

Too many people on here are quick to try and assert their superiority. A semi- arrogance of an 'I know best' culture. Your comment "If I really wanted to I could actually post a cheaper used badge but..." is a case in point. I'm not here for a game of one- upmanship, but if I sense an unwarranted display of such then I will tackle it head on and I will win.

If someone posts something constructive and potentially helpful, why does the automatic response all too often on here try to take that post down and win some points? Yes I knew the badge was used, if you were innocently pointing this out then fine, I still believe I was being helpful. If someone unwittingly receives a marked badge then they probably should have checked the accompanying photo beforehand. In this case I believe the badge looks in pretty good nick, so again that use of "so it should be" leans more towards the 'I know best' culture I was referring to. Remember, as soon as you place those two pins into the associated slot on your bumper, that new badge becomes a used badge, and no more valuable than the cheaper used one you could have bought.

I'm sure there are tons of better deals no matter what and where you buy, but if someone is only trying to be helpful why not resist the urge, maybe subconscious, to take them down a peg or two? Again I apologise for any misinterpretation, but when you look around this place and see so many examples of the case in point, it's all too easy to misinterpret a situation, especially in this environment of textual communication.

Truce and no hard feelings
