Bolt to help putting a wheel back on

These days although I can still lift a heavy BMW wheel, it is a pain to hold the wheel against the hub while trying to locate the bolts into the hole. My Mercedes SLK, had a locating pin that made life easier so I bought one from Temu, so hopefully, when I change my wheels things will be easier.

I have a set of these. Makes refitting the wheel so much easier, but also stops it dropping off unexpectedly when you take the last wheel nut out. I use two at a time, but don’t screw them in too far or they foul the backing plate.

As Zedebee said, the studs work well two at a time but for not too much more money you can get a set of studs which are so much better and they look sweet. Rival Motorsports sell a 75mm set for around £85 which work with 10 mm spacers all round.

Bloody good idea these. I would have never thought of it!
I get fed up with crouching down to see where the bolt holes are when putting wheels on, especially the fronts when they spin.

Do the sets come with different threads? I have M12 bolts on the Z4 and M14 on my F31 (God knows why). Edit: looking at the pictures , they do!

Good idea this. Especially if working on your own locating the wheel is a pain, especially with spacers needing to sit on there too!

They do - I have M10 and M12 hangers. Once you’ve established the correct descriptive phrase to search for, they're available from lots of places and inexpensive.
As said already, two at a time is the way to go, inserting them as the bolts are removed.

I have a pair of these for the X6. I thought everybody knew about them
Someone on here used to make them, I had a pair for the Z but one snapped and I binned the other one.

£16 seems a lot for 2 basically long M12 bolts with no head.
I'm sure I have a few long M12 and M14 bolts somewhere. I can just cut the hex heads off and cut a slot in the end to get a screwdriver in (or even leave them plain. As long as the thread pitch is right.

I have the same but it hurts my fingers getting the clips from the plastic box open

But you don’t want thread the full length or you’ll scratch the bores on the wheels and moisture will get under the finish.

Got mine for £7.99 off eBay.
Makes putting wheels on a lot easier.

Bought a set of two of those bolts for 12.99 off amazon, pretty cheap for something that will make the process so much easier.

Well I didn’t ..very useful..I’ll try on the Zed but may get a set for the Volvo..the main issue is with the Zed and the spacers..trying to get the wheel on with a 5mm spacer is areal pin..I use a pair of pin nosed pliers as a centre device for a thread hole..but holding that whilst balancing the wheel and then trying to get a bolt started without cross threading is vexing..

I used to use the tip of my pinky through the bolt hole in the wheel to stop the spacer from turning. It works well, but you only have two chances for it to go horribly wrong before you need to find a new technique!

Because I swap between winter and summer tyres on my 3 Series I bought one from Machine Monkey.

But to be honest one doesn't help much so maybe I need to buy a pair of them!
