Hi guys

I'm going to respary the front and rear bumper of my 2004 in Z4.

Do people leaving the panels on or remove them before painting?

I've decided to tackle the project myself and learn a bit of basic bodywork and paint skills.

Does anyone have any good guides or sources hat I can start to order the materials I need to prepare the panel and paint? Prep materials, paint gun, where to source correct paint etc.

Anyones help and wisdom would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Definitely remove the bumpers, but…….
Just a quick piece of advice if I may.
If you’ve had limited or no experience of paint preparation and spraying I would definitely and absolutely leave it to someone who has.
Including the proper equipment, fume extracted spray booth facilities, decent spray gun and materials etc etc etc.etc
I’m not being detrimental or doubting your ability in any way, and admire your eagerness to do it, just wouldn’t want you to come to any harm or be disappointed in the outcome.
Vehicle spray painting is a skilled and hazardous occupation.
I know, because it was my trade.
Hope you eventually get them done tho👍

Totally agree with the above.
It’s certainly not easy to get a great result with rattle cans.
The bumpers are very prominent on the car and will highlight and bad colour match of bad paintwork.

If you have a common colour it may be more cost effective to buy two good bumpers. Than to pay a body shop.
