BMW Z4 Coupé 3.0si (E86, N52) – Purchase Advice Needed

Would you consider a car with 195,000 km? The dealer is a young guy who recently started his car trading business, and he bought this car to resell it through his company. The car has been for sale for almost a year, and he is asking €17,000.

The car is originally from Germany and had one owner there. A Dutch owner is the second owner and has driven only about 4,000 km since he bought it. The German owner kept the car indoors but used it mainly as a daily driver for commuting, which explains the high mileage. The maintenance was done at an official dealer, but according to the history it was serviced roughly every 2–3 years or about every 20,000 km.

I am wondering whether this is something that can still be considered, or if it is better to let it go because this is typically when higher-cost repairs start to appear. Or are these cars robust enough that 200,000 km is not a major concern?

@Mr Tidy will chime in and give his experience with a high mileage N52. But to keep it short, nothing major to be scared of.
At the end of the day it depends what do you want to use the car for. If to keep it and drive in nice weather, a lower mileage will always keep it’s value better.
I don’t know how the car market looks in Belgium and if you have any import taxes when registering a car from abroad. But close you have the German market with many cars for sale, maybe it’s something worth keeping in mind?

Agree with what the others have already posted, my main concern would be the clunk you describe, that could be very likely to be the duel mass flywheel causing that, only means to confirm that would be to drop the gearbox to visually check it. It is a big job and expensive if a garage has to do it let alone the cost of a new flywheel.
