BMW Z4 and BMW MINI?

Now I am one of those who used to own a BMW MINI (John Cooper Works S) and decided a while ago that if I changed I'd get a Z4. So I did.

But my question is (and I can't really answer myself!) why so many BMW MINI owners have gone on to buy a Z4?

I used to post on MINI2.com and there are quite a few on there that sold their MINI's to buy a Z4 and I have also noticed a few on here have done the same! Strange!

My wife has just bought a MINI and I pick up my Z4 tomorrow - does that count?! :)

Same. My wife has a mini cooper and I have the z4. We need to create a subgroup (Z4 and MINIowners)

I’m doing it the wrong way round, I'm going smaller I had a 528 then a 330 now a z4 maybe a mini next for me then lol :o

I can only assume that since in many instances the dealerships are in the same premises then having had a Mini your exposed to seeing BMW's so you'd have seen the Z4 as a swap of similar size, more power (in some instances), softtop, aspirational??

Maybe many going to 1 series next as they have the coupe and softop in the range and 4 seats that Mini owners would have had

(I came from a 206GTi as a second car and we had no need for 2 4/5 seater cars)

I came from a Cooper S and loved it, just wanted the same handling abilities with (alot) more power :D

Makes a lot of sense, and exactly why BMW wanted Mini so much - get people hooked on the brand.

I had a MINI Cooper, then a MINI Cooper S and a few cars in between before getting the 'Z'. I have wanted a Z Coupe more than any car i have ever driven, and if i won the lottery tomorrow, i would still use the Z as my everyday car. I love it!

The MINI were fun, but i could not believe how thirsty the 'S' was. I know it was supercharged, but never getting more than 28 MPG, including lots of motorway runs really isn't on for a 1.6 engine. The Z is far better fuel wise (in my own opinion), sounds better and is RWD! BRILLIANT!

I purchased a cooper s last october and traded it in for a Z4 in March this year, I think cj10jeeper is correct as you do tend to look at other cars while in a dealership and as Mini and BMW's are serviced in the same places it's only natural to come into contact with Z4's.

I've never driven a Mini, but I'd consider it if I was car shopping again. Only drawback is that the typical Mini driver that I see tends to be older men or middle age females.....similar to the Z4 I guess. I'm 26 and the SZ4 doesn't strike me as an old man's car, but the Mini really does IMHO.

How strange - certainly around my area it's perceived as a trendy car driven mainly by young females. My daughter ticks all the boxes of Marketing, Single, London based and wants a Cooper.

My two pence (cents) worth is Cooper S and JCW Mini drivers:

We like the BMW brand
We've got use to a car with limited carrying/storage capacity
We want to up the anti on the performance
The fuel consumption is slightly better (26mpg JCW)
The insurance is the same (in the UK)
The road tax is the same
The Z4 is more grown up so a natural progression
It looks awesome

I have just moved from a Cooper S to a 3.0 Z4
I miss the Cooper but am loving the BMW

I don't think many cars can hold the road like the MINI

I plan to replace the girlfriends car with a Cooper S soon..

I've had 2 Infiniti FXes and a Honda S2000 in between my 2003 MCS and my Z4. Miss the MINI:
