hi,

i have a 53 3.0i z4 roadster. ive noticed that the 3.0 si engine has different valvetronics, intake manifold and ecu.

if i put a 3.0 si intake manifold on my 3.0i would i see any difference in power?

would it be worth it? anyone done it before?

many thanks.

I think it's a totally different engine, not just different ancilliary parts... but I am open to being corrected on this.

You could look into a supercharger for more power?

Yep, M54 vs. N52. The only thing the same are the cylinder dimensions... maybe. Even if you had a 3.0 N52, installing the SI intake wouldn't get you anywhere unless you acquired a SI ECU as well. The most practical way to get a significant power boost is to trade in your car for an ///M. Seriously.

Dig a bit deeper on other threads (including 3-series cars with the 3.0 i engine) - it appears to be a fairly simple, common, and inexpensive way to increase power to the 3.0si spec. The parts are not expensive, some websites offer both parts and the ECU work - 'though some say the ECU doesn't need anything done...... best of luck.

I am open to being corrected, but all I can find are threads upgrading the N52B25 and different versions of the N52B30 to the "3.0si spec" and level of tune.

Do you have any examples of people fitting these things to the M54 engine?

He's canadian.
In north america there has been a 3.0i n52 based roadster (so a nannied 3.0si), with 3000cc (2500cc is a marketing nono over there), and on that engine you probably can tinker with different inlet manifolds. He probably means that.

But in this case the TS probably has a m54 engine as mentioned before (don't know what the '53' stands for), so fitting an n52 manifold will obviously be very difficult. Also not needed as the 3.0i m54 manifold is pretty good. Increasing flow with the m54 should be done on the exhaust side ;).

Significantly more power is best achieved with a supercharger, or (as mentioned before) upgrading to a z4m, especially with those incredibly cheap prices in the uk
Cams, a different tune and upgraded headers also gives result, but that's quite an investment for the 30-45hp extra.

Hey sorry to have misled you - who would have known they would use the same designation 3.0i or si for a different engine in Europe (not me). The naming conventions are a real challenge.

In canada/us there are 2 3.0i models: the pre facelift and the facelift.
In europe there's only one: the pre facelift ;)
So the confusion starts across the ocean ;)
