BMW Z4 23i E89 2010 - Alarm and Roof Issue

Hi all,

I have a BMW Z4 23i sDrive E89 2010 and I have been having an issue with the alarm and the roof. I am not aware of any flooding anywhere within the car.

Firstly, with the Alarm, when I lock the car (one click) the alarm will go off after around 5 seconds and randomly over night when left. This seems to be fine when the key is clicked twice. I have heard of similar issues and with the bonnet being the cause, albeit, I have had the bonnet sensor disconnected.

As for the roof, when I turn the car on, there is an instant roof red warning sign that appears and a flashing red button by the convertible button. When I try put the roof down, it won’t go down and same goes for the window. Again, there seems to a common fault with this and I am not sure if this is to do with a sensor or not.

I am looking to see if anyone has knowledge in these faults and what can be done getting it repaired and cost wise? I have been told the Alarm could be to do with the Microwave Sensor located within the door and the hydronic cylinder for the roof issue.

many thanks,

Just study the roof maintenance thread.

In the German ZRoadster forum I was able to get it concentrated into one single thread to not always sesrch around and handle with dozens of links.

Maybe I will give it a try here as well.

Get the codes read - come back - let us know what the faults are.

Cheers for the reply, got the following fault codes back -

002D2A DME: Differential-pressure sensor, intake manifold: adaptation 005F11 DSC: Brake-pad wear, rear axle, sensor
005F13 DSC: Brake-pad wear, rear axle, brake pads
009D00 DWA: DWA BUS
00A690 Microswitch, rear-end module closed, left 00A692 Microswitch, rear-end module closed, right 00A698 Rear-end module open during driving 00A6A4 Hardtop operating unit

That last code looks funky; no doubt someone will steer you you to remedy. The earlier two look interesting - altho unrelated - and possibly need looking at to clear.

However, embrace your Z4, these are teething issues on a 14 yo car. One, i might add, I own!! (just without the codes)

Codes are nice & clear - Robbi gives the info you need for sorting out the hall sensors & micro switches.

Fix those, clear the codes, check again.

Alarm could well be that the system thinks the boot is open or roof unlatched, hence won't set the alarm properly.

Codes re brakes maybe historic - if they pop back up, check brake pads /replace the wear sensors.
