Hello,

I am in the market for a BMW z4. Either the 2 litre year or the 2.2 litre 2005+.
Im looking to spend £2000 to £3000

Thank you for your time.

Hi and welcome to the forum, Harvey.

If you can you might want to try both before you decide - the 2.2i with a straight 6 engine will definitely sound better than a 2.0i!

Unless insurance will be a problem, you might want to include 2.5is or 3.0is in your search as all the 6 cylinder models use the same engine just in different sizes - so running costs are pretty much the same.

Anyway, happy hunting - and don't forget the photos once you've found one.

Ignore the 2.0. you'll get a half decent 2.2 for around £3kish. I sold mine a few months back for £3500 and it was in fantastic condition. If you don't mind a little rough around the edges then you shouldn't have to wait too long

Looks like a deposit taken here but it's a pretty good benchmark of what's around...

If your budget stretches to the 4K mark, I seen a nice silverE85, think it may have been a 2.5...

I second that, had mine 2 years now & been faultless, unfortunately my have to sell, if you're interested pm me.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I had to have a Coupe, so a 3 litre was the lesser of 2 evils for me.

Personally I'd want a straight 6 as that is one of the Z4s more unique features, but why limit your options to 2.0 or 2.2? A 2.5 or 3.0 would be more fun, and they don't cost any more to run than a 2.2.

Nothing wrong with a 2.0 in the real world. Smooth and enough grunt to keep you happy, but not empty your wallet every time you need to fill up😉 if you can stretch to £5k my 2.0! M sport is for sale with only 49800 miles.

2.2s are great- had mine nearly 12 years and love it every time it comes out to play! They are rare though so I would also include 25 and 3.0 in your search. Buy the best one on condition etc rather than engine as long as it’s a 6cyl

Would I be right in saying that the 2.2 was actually only available in 03/04 and was dropped in the LCI model?

Yes- prefacelift had a 2.0, 2.2, 2.5 and 3.0. For facelift this was simplified to 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 pre and post facelift have different engines and power outputs

Cannot be "more unique".

It was replaced with the 2.5i 177bhp (I've had 3 now) they are OK but no rocket ship, and the pre face 2.5i was replaced with the 2.5si (217bhp)

Oops - wrong adjective. More "unusual features" or "less common features" would have worked better.

But then I was always taught that a sentence should have a verb, a subject and an object - and "Cannot be more unique" seems to be lacking one of those. :P

My apologies to the OP for the tangential derailment - I hope he finds the right car while the summer is still here.
