Hey guys,

I recently made a video on the running costs of my 2005 2.5i Z4 and I was genuinely shocked at how much the car has cost myself over such a short period.

Do any of you guys have a ball park figure of your annual running costs? I am keen to compare and find out?

Ps here is a link to the video I made on my running costs :)

Thomas I didn't watch your video. Set a budget beforehand. If the costs shock you, sell it and buy a different car. It's a lump of metal with tyres and wires.Same as any other. Some cars just have cheaper tyres and wires. :fuelfire:

I have had several BMWs over the years and I have found the Z4 the most expensive car to run, I just wanted to make a video to inform potential buyers. I have done 60k miles over 3 years in my 1 series and it was cheap to run. Yet 3,000 miles in 8 months has nearly cost myself £3k. In addition, I have done just over 90k miles in my VW Golf GTD and it has had no maintenance issues whatsoever. I am aware of costs of cars and maintenance, as I said it was more to help educate potential buyers that they are expensive to run

My 2.5si worked out at about £3500/yr over 3 years. That was for everything, including mods and any new tools, but excluding depreciation. About £800 of that was fuel, and the same again for silly London insurance and parking costs.

The ///M has been about £5k/yr so far, for the same kind of mileage (and both it and the 2.5si have had one major service during my ownership), but it's actually a little cheaper overall, once you factor in depreciation.

I've spent an eerily consistent ~1/3rd of the total on "non-essentials" every year - mechanical and cosmetic mods, tyre/alloy upgrades, speeding fines etc.

I keep track of the costs so that I, err, know how much it costs. :?

You seem to have been battered there Thomas

Mine costs me about;
700 pa in fuel
250 insurance
200 tax ( sorned part winter )
40 MOT
200 service ( annual ) averaged
400 BMW warranty/breakdown cover

So about £1800 annually

In my ownership it’s had a full detail and paint correction, wheel refurb and some cosmetic paint which added about £500 in total

I have a contingency fund for my cars but touchwood the zed hasn’t eaten into it

Some might say the bmw warranty is an extravagance so if you took that off it’d be about £1400 pa

I don't want to add mine up in honesty.

But one thing I am noticing is that lotta people seem to be spending next to naff all on fuel - I think I'm on about 200 a month, so 2400 a year for fuel over here...

Is anyone actually driving their cars?

I've got a spreadsheet with all costs on it, but I like my Z4 so much I don't care what it costs - so long as I can stay solvent!

Good man!

That’s how you do it. Doesn’t have to make any sense to the next man....
