BMW Warranty

Just been offered by BMW to extend the warranty by one year on me 3.0 for £427 (With BMW Emergency Service) and £340 without. I feel that this is OKish........ What do you think?

I think that if BMW thought they'd loose money on the deal that they wouldn't offer it. BMW not loosing money = YOU loosing money.

On the other hand... peace of mind is sometimes priceless.

That is a lot better than the offer they made me - circa £600, best I could do with the AA myself wouldve been ~£480

Figured Id keep the money and put it towards repairs as needed... so far (touches wood) Ive only had a brake light go and a suspension spring, so Im still in pocket...

Guess it depends on your own peace of mind :)

Sounds like a good deal to me too, I enquired about the cost of the warranty when I purchased my Z4 and the dealer quoted £600 - £700 IIRC. I shall be using this post to batter them down a bit (a lot in fact!) when it comes time to renew.

thats a good deal, quotes from a third party like warranty direct will be about the same and offer less cover, for comparison a Porsche extended warranty from an OPC is approx £900 for a Boxster.

The difference being the porsche warantee gets quite some praise for its cover  You need it though on the porsche, what with RMS issues and engines that sometimes go pop with the intermediate shaft thingies.

Not from me it doesn't, it's the reason I have vowed never to own a Porsche again! When I got my Boxster S (secondhand from a UK OPC) I specifically asked whether the roof and stereo were covered and was told they were. Then the roof and stereo packed up and.. well, you can probably guess the rest!

Long story short, for the sake of a new roof Porsche lost me as a customer for the foreseeable future, which is no odds to them I'm sure, but a great shame for me as I loved my S!

The RMS issue has been a thorn in Porsche's side for years, I was in PCGB (I live very near it's HQ in fact) and I rarely heard a good word about how Porsche handled RMS claims.

OK, I have now finished venting my spleen.. move along!
