I've only had my car a few months but the power steering was moaning a lot- the noise dominated low speed maneuvers and just didn't sound healthy at all. My regular mechanic (previously a BMW main dealer tech) said it wasn't quite right but a quick test of the power steering fluid suggested that it was probably just that which needed replacing. Whilst he had it in his workshop we also spotted a slight oil weep.
Anyhoo, long story short- I dropped it off on Tuesday at my local dealership and the end result was a new power-steering pump fitted and rocker cover gasket replaced all before the close of business on the Wednesday. Not sure how much that would have cost as I didn't get any paperwork as it's under warranty but I'm pretty chuffed it was settled without question and at no cost to me.
A good antidote to the otherwise fairly rubbish service that myself and my friends who have bought BMWs over the course of the year have received.
