Hi

My 2003 Z4 3.0i is currently at Westerley BMW having two major problems repaired, firstly the oil pump has a slight ticking noise coming from the front of the engine which has been going on for the last year and its driving me mad, I'm sure its that..............I hope! Secondly the hydraulic pump for the roof needs replacing :(

Has anyone else had any joy getting BMW to foot some of the bill on an out of warranty car?

Thanks for any help or suggestions

Im just in the process of replacing my soft top motor myself. I have a thread on here at the moment if you want to check it out.

I was told by an ex BMW mechanic that it will be a case of getting a service person from BMW to ask for a good will claim from BMW uk. This may only cover parts or labour but its worth a good go. I was going down this route but instead I decided to do it myself (It really isn't that hard and there is a fantastic how-to guide on this forum). I have zero mechanical knowledge but I now have the car roof out, the motor out and will be puting it all back together tomorrow afternoon. This way the worst case scenario will be the cost of a new motor. Saving yourself hundreds of pounds labour from BMW. You are looking at £1000.

Thanks Tommo, I will see what I can get BMW to contribute.

I may have got it wrong when I said soft top motor as on the quote I've been given it says HYDRO UNIT and Sound Insulation replacement.........could be hydraulic pump??!! anyway the hood doesn't work!
I would consider doing it myself but my garage is two small!!! Good luck with getting yours sorted.

Hi and welcome,

I think on a 6 year out of warranty car you might as well save your time and effort. Given that if I'm reading it correctly the car is already in and work being done, which you must have agreed to paymemt on, then I don't see any prospect of getting anywhere.

Make sure that you ask for their discounted rates on old cars and parts. Most BMW dealers offer this scheme and it makes a big difference (20% of labour and 10% parts IIRC).

I've just asked BMW service and I have had the discounts on parts and labour, will be paying just over a grand for both jobs which I think is quite good depending how you look at it.
I was just hoping someone else with the same recent problem on a 2003 had managed to get some sort of GOOD WILL offering so I could back it up when I asked.
Thanks for help so far!

I've just had a different repair (DSC sensor) done on my 04 car. The dealer offered to ask BMW UK if they'd contribute because my mileage was so low. They paid for 1/2 the part (which means it's still warranty-covered, not the case if they'd paid for it all, apparently) and all the labour.

So if your mileage is low it's def worth asking, and if not, nothing to lose imho. From the dealer's point of view, if they can make you happy, you're more likely to come back.
