BMW Style 68s on Z4?

Hey all,

I've got a pretty boring spec'd Z4 with 104s on. I've picked up some style 68s in good condition for a good price (free!) Has anyone dropped a set on a z4? How do they look?

I'm thinking of getting them done up to look this these:

I also need to get a new set of tyres on them... Worth it do you think?
 
They look swish , only 17s though so be wary of throwing big money in then wishing you had upsized ?
No reason why they won't look good though :thumbsup:

I do! Haha. Well a new set of Avon ZV7s all around fitted and balanced is £380, plus what, £60 a wheel to refurb and paint them? Considering I didn't pay anything for the alloys themselves that's not too bad right?

Also they'll be a straight swap onto the car right? The fronts are 225/45/R17 and the rears are 245/40/R17. (104s are 225/50/R16 all around)
 
Well £600 is a decent budget for a wheel upgrade so other choices are available
You should have 7.5j et 41 fronts & 8.5j et50 rears ?
If so then spacers required to get any real effect so budget another £80 there :? Now around £650 :cry: & still 17s when all done & for same money there is currently a set of 224s rubbered up ready to fit that will look great & always hold value
Go with them if you really want them but don't do it then regret :thumbsup:

Yeah that sounds about right for the 68's. What do you mean about the spacers though? :(

Yeah that sounds about right for the 68's. What do you mean about the spacers though? :(

The offset number or et number is crucial , a lower offset 18inch can often fill the arch like a higher offset 19 & same with 18 / 17
Look at your current wheel face in relation to the arch & imagine the face being 15mm or 20mm further out , effectively meaning a lower offset number
Upgrading alloys is the norm but simply going from 16 to 17 does not always give a visual effect you were imagining & £600 later is a expensive mistake to rectify
Pic here of my last E85 on 224s , the offsets & wheel widths means the alloy faces fill the arches .
Imagine them sitting 20mm further in & that's where the 68s will be

So that is something that bothers me with the 104's.... they're okay at the front, but at the rear they're VERY tucked inside the arches... Are you saying that the 68's won't fill my arches any better than the 104s unless I get spacers?

The 104s are 7 et47, the 68s are 8.5 et50?

Yep you are onto it , , , the 68s will be a big improvement from 104s but could stand another move out to really give effect especially as they have a sunken style to them , , many would not bother but you are obviously looking for a better fit & stance so be wary of chucking the money in then being disappointed with the outcome
I'm not for a min saying don,t do it , if you like them that's what matters but imo spacers would be needed to get the look :?
224s are a known success , bolt them on & instantly looks + stance are sorted :wink:

Yeah I get what you're saying now! Where would I purchase said spacers from?

I had a look at the 224s and I don't like them as much :o (not a fan of the thin spokes style!)
 
Haha , i'm not trying to talk you in or out of different wheels , just using 224s as a example of the perfect width/offset
Spacers ? search on ebay for hubcentric with bolts / 18mm-20mm rear + 10mm-15mm fronts should be fine but again why not fir the wheels & have a ponder as you may be quite happy :thumbsup:
 
Thanks for all the advice mr wilks!

I think I'll just fit them without getting them painted and without spacers to see how I feel about them first. From what I can tell though I'm definitely going to need spacers though to get the look I wanted (was expecting) as you said.
