i don't think £899 is worth it for my car. its service history is not 100% and its not a //M. it doesnt have a #xx number and its a 04 plate 3.0. i'm not saying dont get your car done somewhere for that price but for me its too much. when servicing is approaching 1/6 the value of the car i think its too much.
mine is due an oil change in 6K miles, normally on my cars i would do it myself but ill probably get it done by the local place near me that my friends have taken their mini's/bmws to . they quoted a few hundred for an inspection and brake fluid change.
You wouldn't pay £899, that's an M price. For an oil change on value servicing for a non M (assuming they price match) you'd pay £139. For an Inspection 1 £229 and for an Inspection 2 £339. That's a pretty good deal.
You could argue a really good indie would do at least as good a job, but pricing is likely to be similar.

Not sure why you would not want to use a Halfords Autocentre? I was very sceptical at the time as my first reaction was " Halfords for a prestige brand" got to say I have used them a number of times now for my daily drive ..... Jaguar XFS, I have had yearly services and brake pads etc, all with great warranty and brilliant service. When my Z4 3.0 needs anything, that's where it will go as well ...... Can't recommend them enough! Sick of the main Stealers, particularly Jaguar, well up there own arse and quote me for work I know is not even needed! :evil:

Read my review of paddock motors in exeter, at a main dealer you will be very lucky to get past the eye candy on the service desk who probably wouldnt know an oil filter if it jumped up and bit her on the ass, paddock have a guy on the desk who knows bmws, you can see and talk to them whilst working on your car, the whole experience is a mile away from what i experienced at the stealers, you are not afraid to ask them to do things because they charge sensible money yet are highly skilled and have passion for their work. In my opinion you either know zilch about your car and have been scared into believing that the main dealer is the only alternative or you are just a bit of a dime bar!! Call them wherever you live, it will be a very wise move , inspection two last month, ... Under 500 plus vat.

To an enthusiast, a full BMW service history means naff all though.
An inspection 2 service at Darren Wood, who is regarded as one of the best BMW specialists in the country, cost me 140 quid, and a stamp in the book from someone like that is worth more than a main bmw dealer in my view.
When buying a car I'd prefer to see a series of stamps from a respected specialist than a dealer. I can't be the only one surely.

If a full dealer service history isn't important then why do people bother to make the point a car has a full dealer history rather than a full service history? I have nothing against Indie service places at all, but if I don't know them their stamp in a service book means nothing whereas a main dealer stamp at least lets me know a minimum standard has been met by trained tech's. Also if something goes awry outside of warranty, BMW check if a car has had a full dealer service history before making a goodwill payment.
Like everything else, your car your choices. If I can get a main dealer stamp from a main dealer I've used for years, trust and I know the tech's are enthusiasts about Ms and Alpinas, and all for close to an Indie price then that's where I'll go.

Its now 2 years since my inspection so time for my oil service.. Oil, brake fluid and microfilter Stratsones Derby quoted me £262.32!
Thats more then my inspection (1) was 2 years ago!
Will price out an indy now.. Euro carparts has a deal on oil, so may get my 7L of Mobil1 from them at £68

Bear in mind the technician at dealership is allowed 17 mins to find your car in car park ,get it in the workshop ,do the job ,check codes & return your beloved to the car park , , scandalous :thumbsdown:
17 minutes??? I've just sat in Sytner Sutton Coldfield 2.5hours for a "while you wait" oil service...?!!!

Ah that's a good wheeze, it's called how many other "shouty customer's cars" will we hurry out the door before dealing with the customer who has a booked appointment. I've found the three local main dealers to be somewhat lacklustre with time keeping, honesty and "highly trained diagnostic skills".
I'm going to a Indy recommended from a longstanding member from the forum for my insp 2, I have spoken to them in detail about the work I want done and they come across as very knowledgable and meticulous....
Would you trust a main dealer to adjust your valve clearances if they cock up an AUC check, brake renewal work, or unable to diagnose a faulty TPS sensor on three visits despite printing the fix from this forum and handing it to them on the second time... The new dent on my wing really sealed the deal which they fixed later (despite denying it yet photos proved it wasn't there on handover)... Grrrrr.
