Hi Folks

This weekend I purchased a black 2003 2.5i BMW Z4. First impressions are that it seems an absolute great car to drive and I have already become a BMW convert.

Found this community on the web so thought I would sign up - So a big shout out to all the members.

Only downside is - I now seem to have doubled my petrol bill for the month, but i'm sure that is a small price to pay for what seems like a great motor. :D

If anyone has any styling advice that would be appreciated, as i'm not sure what subtle changes are available for the Z4..... And also if anyone knows of any magical way of getting more mile to the gallon!

- Lastly abit about myself, i'm 26 and live in Bedfordshire - And look forward to attending a few local meets if any exist.

Cheers everyone.

Rich

Hey there and welcome - dont forget to get some photos up!

Doubled your fuel bill?! What have you come from?

:driving:

I will definitely get some photos up - Will get it waxed up and gleaming first and then take a few.

Gannet - I previously had a 1.6 16V Astra G

The Z4 is very economical on a motorway cruise for a sports car.

If I set my 3.0i to cruise at about 65/70 on the motorway it'll return 400-420 miles from a tank, easily.

If you just always follow the rule of motorway time should be when you 'earn back' your MPG, and use the A/Bs for your fun driving, you should see a mixed driving return of about 30-32mpg or about 350/370 miles to a tank.

Mind you, my experiences are against a background of a 2.0 A3 TDI S-Line (600 miles to a tank cruising)... and an RX-8 (250, haha).

Welcome, seems a lot more of us younger drivers are buying zeds now!

Subtle styling would be a stubby aerial and clear side/rear lights. After that your into bumpers, skirts and wheels

Thanks!

Do you have links to places the aerials / clear lights can be purchased from? - I'd be interested to see how they look in some pics + cost etc

Welcome. If you haven't got a wind deflector (between the roll over hoops) then this is a good option exspecially for wife/girlfiend/daughter who may have long hair - certainly reduces the swirl effect in the cabin. Just for fun I fitted illuminated door sills and enjoy the comments (not all complimentary I might add but who cars I love 'em) when I open the door at night and they glow 'Z4' at you. Rear spoiler looks good. Strut brace stiffens up the front end (and at my time of life......! :) ) and then you can go on and on with cost being the main prohibitor. Just enjoy and go for subtle upgrades as suggested in other posts.

Hi Rich & welcome,
On the whole astra vs Z4 fuel consumption issue....my son has a 54 plate astra 1.6 16v life...... can you imagine how pissed off he was when after we both done the run from my house in yorkshire to his in worcester......
The Z4 38.1mpg..........the Astra.........33 mpg..........(ok I was toodling along the motorway most of the way listening to a bit of "chilled ibiza club classic's voume 147.......... 8) with the top down taking in the ray's..... :P
with the burble of that straight six harmonising with the mixes :driving: ....... my 4 just eating up mile after mile after mile)........................Oh sod it I'm off out for a blast............................

if you havent already got it fit cruise control, as you have a 2003 model its a simple case of buying the switch from the dealer and slotting it in and connecting it and cutting a hole in the cowling under the wheel, im finding using it is getting me much better mpg on long drives, got as high as 44mpg on a route that would normally be 38 without it. it will not however stop you having fun with a heavy foot :D

Welcome

There are loads of subtle and non expensive mods you can do.

Clear side repeaters from BMW

Stubby -E.Bay

Debadge gives a cleaner look

The list goes on

Hi everyone

Many thanks for all your suggestions and comments - Much appreciated, and seems like a great community you have here.

So far I have got a strut brace fitted, and the wind deflector.

Think i'll certainly invest in the clear repeaters and stubby aerial when i get a sec.

Alan - The illuminating Z4 door sills... Have you got a pic? - Interested to see what they look like.

I have now taken a photo - How do i post it up?
