BMW Main Dealer Service - Is it worth it ?

My Z4 Coupe (3.0 Sport version, not an M) is due an oil service in January.
The car is an 06 plate & is out of warranty
It's done 67,000 miles (I've done 5,000 miles in it in 19 months)
I am thinking of selling it in the spring

Peter Vardy in Edinburgh want £340 for this basic service. change the oil, oil filter & pollen filter and give it a wee once over - no doubt come upwith other things to hike the bill up.
(Last service was a major one (inspection 2 @ £550) 23 months ago - 7000 miles ago)
The computer on the dashboard still reads 6600 miles to service...

The service book so far is all BMW main dealer stamps.

Should I keep it all main dealer stamps in the book ?
or just go to a specialist? and save a few hundred quid

Would it effect the value? - not being main dealer stamped.
and would it put potential buyers off ?

any input much appreciated

If you are selling in the spring I would certainly get the main dealer to service it- it might not effect value but it will make it much easier to sell .
 
Depends on the stamp, if it a reputable indie. My indie told me that he saw the advert for my last zed being sold on as advertising the fact it had been serviced by him as opposed to the main stealers
 
Get other dealer prices. That's expensive for oil change,I paid £315 for inspection 2 last year,if I remember right oil change was £ 130 I think.from Harry fairbairns BMW.

That's a MASSIVE rip off for an oil service.
 
Take it to John Clarks in Dundee. £120 for an oil service. Or there abouts

Don't be surprised if they quote you for an extra £700 worth of work. Happens every time I take my car in.... :?

Hmm.. Been thi king of them for Inspection 2 next year but also heard good reviews about Eastern in Edi .
 
JC are ok. Had a few delays with them in the past. But when I worked in Dundee they used to transport you direct to your office after dropping off the car. Wouldn't get that kind of service from an indy

I paid £169 for an oil service at Worcester BMW in the summer.

You could get a nice hotel and make a weekend of it for the price difference :wink: Worcester is quite a nice city and if you like Rugby the dealership is right by the Rugby ground.
 
Last month I had the Insp 2 service done at a trusted local outfit, although its still under 40k miles it is approaching 10 years old now and you have to be realistic. I spent the £250 I saved having all the little scratches and imperfections sorted, It looks mint again and I reckon that added more value than a BMW stamp 8)

I'll get a price from Eastern @ Newbridge.

Costco sell Mobil 1 for about £28 (twin pack - 2 x 4L)

Would that oil be OK ?
or have I opened up a can of warms (new thread / do a search!)

I paid just £100 with me supplying my own oil at a main dealer, not worth losing your full service history just for the basic oil service.

ring your's & ask for basic oil/filter & see what they offer ?
worth it for another stamp IMO :wink:

The small print says it excludes Z4s though :thumbsdown:

tossers ! we all know the engines in standard Z's are the same as in other BMW models
only compounds why i would never use a main dealer for service or repair ! bought from them a few times but find them as slippery as an otters throat :thumbsdown:
i may phone them on monday just to be awkward & see if i can cajole them into doing a Z then tell em to get f3rked :evil:
 
Most dealers will do a substantial discount if you point out that the car is more than 4 years old. Also no point in changing the pollen filter if you are going to sell it. Not sure off hand but I'm sure it's easy to take out and inspect yourself. You'll easily be able to tell if it's grubby (in which case you could replace it or give it a bang to get the dust off) but I doubt it will be unless you live some where really dusty.
