BMW M3 with Competition Pack was faster than Audi RS5 even in the wet. I always thought Audi Quattro would be better in the wet and snow.

The show was quite good tonight.

Both looked like a hoot! Must be great to drive about like that, especially all the sideways activity in the M3!

Pretty impressive for cars which seat 4 in comfort

The rs5 looked a bag of s**t to drive understeering everywhere. The m3 looked far better in the handling department more tail happy and looks better aswell imo.

TBH that's probably just Clarkson playing it up for the camera like he usually does. It's impossible to tell if it's him or the car that's the cause. Saying that, the M3 looked an absolute hoot: very sideways at times. evo magazine didn't rate the RS5 on test, placing it last in a group test, so Audi have given them one for a 6-month longterm test to see if they change their mind...

Thought that was the best episode so far this series, although that's not hard given the poor standard IMO of the other shows.

I was surprised he didn't rate the competition pack. It's been widely praised elsewhere in the motoring press. John Barker (EVO) has been running one in their Fast Fleet section and he seems very taken with it.

I only really consider the CP to be wheels and a slight drop anyway, hardly a 'new version'. I'd still specify it because it looks stunning. loved the Stig stopping to clean off dead insects

There's a new rs5 just down the road from me. Regardless of handling they look tough up close, I think they carry more menace than the m3 for some reason. No way I'd take one over the M though!

Sort of know what you mean about Clarksons driving but I think in the hands of a race driver they would still complain of chronic understeer from the audi, they would be better dropping the 4 wheel drive system or at least doing a 2 wheel drive version aswell. They seem to go ott on the safety front compromising driving pleasure although the r8 is probably the exception.

I just think the A5 is plain hideous and no amount of RS treatment is going to rescue it. I find Audi design sooooo dull and drab (A3/A4/A5/A6/A7/A8) I'm almost yawning writing this. R8 is lovely though.

Apart from the RS4 and R8 all Audi R cars seem to suffer from the same criticisms.
