???
seems to be some problem either with seat occupy thing or left pillar harness?
their code is slightly different but I would think you are looking at a wiring fault on one of your airbags...

But this guy got "Error Code: 20 70 FF" not really the same?

you're right.... they aren't "really" the same... but that is the only real reference i found and wondered if you had read it, it is only slightly different and i would be inclined to see if i could start from there
Do you want to provide some more information? Were you doing anything when the code started? have you tried clearing and how quickly does it return?

I mean the obvious answer is to go to bmw and see what they say...

Sorry im getting realy pissed off by this car now :headbang:

I got a 2.5 2003, and I changed to a multi functional steering wheel, I did follow this guide http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=16422.

I was stupid and turned to ignition on when the airbag wasnt connected.

I bought a bypass occupancy sensor and tried to reset with INPA but still light ON.

My car was manufactured after 09/03 so I had to do like this, maybe something is wrong with the cords?

Have you checked with a multimeter to check that the scotch lock is making good contact? I personally never like them, but that would be my first point of call.
Then I think I would want to try and put it back to standard and clear the error.... and then start again and check that it is something simple..

What was your reasoning for buying a bypass occupancy sensor?

Maybe I should check with a multimeter. But the controls work.

I tried indeed to change back to the original steering wheel, but the cords were still taking electricity if u understand what i mean (like the picture i added).

I bought the bypass because i thought i broke the sensor pad in the passenger seat and that was why the airbag light was on.

So have you removed the bypass? just to reduce possible issues.

The controls though are separate to the airbag leads, have you tested the airbag leads? obvs have the battery disconnected and check for continuity rather than testing voltage. I don't think the steering controls would be related so whether they work or not isn't an issue. it is the airbag connection that would bother me, have you checked it is seated in properly?
Again make sure you follow the normal procedures!
Did you use your original airbag ?

scan the actual satellite modules, rather than just getting the overall error.
they'll tell you exactly what the cause is, rather than just giving an ambigious error code

(in INPA, select safety, and then select the "satelline B pillar" modules - read the error codes stored in those and post up what they are.

You can also test the seat occupancy sensor in INPA.
Again, goto the satellite B pillar modules, goto "status" and then click "seat".
you can see a live feed from the occupancy sensor there.

just dont go into the "activate" menu. I've never gone there myself, but it doesn't take a genious to work out what that COULD do

I took off the scotch lock and installed the old steering wheel and tried to reset it with INPA but without sucess.
The airbag light is still ON. I tried with the old steering wheel + bypass module and still ON.
Now everything is back to original and light is still ON when Im trying to reset.
It must be the slip ring? Is there anyway i can see if the slip ring is broken?

you need a newer version of INPA... 5.0.2 is a good version for our cars.
have a google for "bimmerpost INPA update" and you'll find all you need

seriously, without knowing the "real" error, you'll be stabbing in the dark for days..

No idea about carsoft -never used it.
Let me know how you get on with INPA - once you get into the satellite "B" pillars and can read their error information, we'll honestly have something decent to work on!

that's the same version of inpa I have.
you need to install the spdaten files now

I'll try and find a guide for installing the spdatens (from memory, it's really easy, just copying some files into the right folders) - failing that, I'll zip up all my files and stick them somewhere for you to grab (will pm you the link).

have a gander at the install files you used to install INPA.
You should find the following program there: Referenz\Install\Instprog.exe

run that and it should install all the reference files for you!

I've just pm'd you a link to the exact installer I used.

Basically, the instructions for installing that are as follows:

1: extract the rar file to a folder in the root of your C: drive (c:\inpainstall)

2: run the "instprog.exe" file in the "INSTALL" folder (c:\inpainstall\install\instprog.exe)

3: Click ok to the german message box that appears (starts with "Haben Sie Probleme bei der Installation?")

4: Select "English" in the language selection, then click "Continue"

5: when the "Viewing the reference lists" page is shown, click "Continue" again.

6: Ensure "C:" is selected on the "destination drive" page, then click "Continue".

7: Select "BMW Group Rectification Programs UK" from the "configuration" page, then click "Continue".

8: Select "Complete" next to "INPA", then click "Continue".

9: Select "OBD (on board diagnostic plug)" from the "Interface" page, then click "Continue".

10: Click "Continue" on the "starting the installation" page.

11: Click "End" when the installation has completed.

(It's likely that the installer will hang after you click End.. don't worry ;) )

That should give you a full working version of INPA.
It will be configured to use COM1 for your interface cable.
If your cable isn't configured to COM1, you can either change that in Windows Device Manager, or go into the OBD.ini file in C:\EDIABAS\BIN and change it from COM1 to the com port your cable is on.

Then you really should be golden!
