BMW Drilled Discs...worth it?

Would these be worth the outlay? Obviously price shown is for 1 disc, so roughly £380 for front + fitting : :| ....would upgraded pads+ calipers be necessary?

Been looking at getting either an AP kit or something similar, but these seemed an attractive option due to being an official part.
 
They'll only let water/gasses escape faster than normal discs, so won't make braking 'better' - just lets you abuse them longer before they start to 'fade'.

I'd save the cash and go for an AP/Alcon/K-Sport brake kit.
 
pretty much what i thought. think im just going to go for black diamon drilled and vented discs with new black diamond pads. :thumbsup:

What 'quality' issue have you found with genuine BMW performance discs?

The only thing that makes Alcon/AP/Brembo BBK kits 'better' is the multi-pot calipers.

You could save yourself £40 and get those same genuine ones from bmminiparts.com for £150-ish.

that rings a bell....simply because a friend of mine had his replaced on his m6.

Kinda settled on the EBC Ultimax discs with stoptech street performance pads. was looking into the ferodos, but the 2500's arent road legal. :?

Other than the stoptech pads, can any of you guys recommend any from experience? I dont want to go near any of the 'stuff' pads by ebc......had a bad experience before

There's even an argument that they can make braking (very) slightly "worse", as there's (marginally) less contact area between the pad and the disk.
 
Mtech100 on eBay do kits for front and rear. I know for my e85 2.5 they are £129 delivered free from Londonderry. Don't know whether anyone on the forum has had any off them or not. Might be worth a look!

The logic behind this is definitely plausible. However any car over 50k (apart from Astons owing to the fact they are generally overpriced) generally has grooved or drilled discs, more heat results in more wear and fade but it all depends on your driving style I guess :thumbsup:

the only thing I would add to this is that the discs are lighter (due to the holes and I think these have a aluminium hat), which helps with unsprung weight. On the other hand the holes will make the discs more prone to cracking, if used extensively on track.

They are expensive, though, so you are looking for a stronger bite/better fade resistance you are probably better off with plain discs and better pads/brake oil.

The EBC USR are sooooooooo expensive on the M... :headbang:
I had those on my previous 2.5i, i found them to be worth the money, as they were cheaper than OEM for the 2.5i.
Besides, the OEM discs on the M are so beautifull... :wub:

OEM pads are good. I had a couple of RedStuff on the 2.5i, they did their job. No experience with other pads (except CL RC5+, but track only).

Used these on my last few Bm's with good results.Fitted them to my coupe 6months ago & very happy with them. Supplied with mintex pads for the money great value ! Don't know if the breaks are much better than original discs,but they look good. :thumbsup:
 
Ah thats good to know Kermit :thumbsup: as I was worried that I was going to loose brake performance in the interests of looks. The ebay seller has a 100% feedback so assumed they must be half decent. Just got to decide on the caliper colour now...but thats a thread in itself :D
 
What pads did you end up using? They have offered me Mintex Redbox pads included for £169 or Ferrodo premier for £195 be interested to know if you stuck with the mintex
