BMW Dealer - Carrs of Bury St Edmunds - Experiences?

I'm having a minor (hopefully) disagreement with Carrs of Bury about who should pay for a repair that they bodged before I picked up my new (to me) approved used Z4 Coupe.

Anyone dealt with them, or have any contacts / leverage?

We're only disputing £100, so it's not 'life or death', but it's currently leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

(P.s. I'm based in Leeds, so they know there's very little chance of repeat business from me!)

I was in Bury St.E on Saturday and a couple had hired a lowloader to carry a burnt out X5 on the back. Big sign saying 'This BMW X5 nearly killed me and my kids'. Basically she'd taken the car to Carrs and they'd not fitted the battery correctly. It arced back at their house, caught fire and set the house alight too. Apparently Carrs hadn't apologised even though the report back had identified the terminal as the source of the fire. Sounds to me like they're a nightmare if you've had issues too. Not sure if the above story will help leverage them but I guess you could allude to them that you know of recent troubles with customers there. Good luck!

Unfortunately we now live in a litigious world where any admission of guilt or liability can land you with a huge bill and legal expenses- just ask any lawyer if you should admit liability for an error or mistake and the answer will be an emphatic NO. So who do have to blame here – yes the dealer if they have made an error but perhaps our legal system which allows such massive claims to be made when simple mistakes are made. Let’s thank our American cousins for this wonderful 'personal liability claim' system we have adopted and which nicely lines the pockets of our civil claim lawyers.

Thanks for the post - I'll let you know how I get on. Hopefully they will see that keeping a repeat BMW buyer happy has a value too!

Update 26 April - They've agreed to pay for the work in full, even though it was more than they expected as I'd used a local (to me) specialist - sent the invoice on Thurs and got the cheque back Sat. Happy Days
