BMW 360hp Map?

I read somewhere that bmw can provide an upgrade to the z4m to give it 360hp?

Anyone had this done? Does it affect toque in the whole rev range or just at the top end?

Plus.. how much was it!

In the aftermarket there are firms claiming 20-25hp - there was speculation in the early days of the car, that the pre-production/media cars had "enhanced" mapping to add to the thrill for Journalists

Yes, BMW do remap press cars. I used to have a MINI Cooper and I went on a tour of the factory where they are built with a MINI forum. A guy on the forum worked there and he re-mapped mine and couple of other's peoples cars while we were there! Just used a laptop. Gave a bit more urgency to the way the car accelerated. It used a bit more fuel though!

My car is remapped but not by BMW. It is totally untraceable by BMW's diagnostics and smoothes out the torque curve to give stronger pull from lower revs. I'm sure it's unlocked some extra bhp but that doesn't really matter in the real world, it's more important that it changes the characteristics for the better. After all you could spend a fortune and add 100bhp but i think you'd make a difficult and unconfortable car out of it.

The best way to describe it is that the car now drives like it should have when using the Sport button. For me BMW really stuffed up the Sport settings and i know most people will agree that it makes their car jerky and over urgent. I never use Sport now as the "normal" car is perfect.

Appearantly, BMW can now detect remaps on the new ECUs. This is used to void warranty claims.

I can easily see the map on the new ECUs having a checksum and that checksum would be changed when the map is changed, allowing BMW to void warranties.

Agreed. Not many people know that recent (2002 onwards I believe) ignition keys store a hell of a lot of data every time you insert the key. They certainly store the current mileage so if somebody (without the knowledge) uses a laptop to "correct" the mileage, the dealer will know it's clocked.

If its simply power you're after why don't you put yours on a rolling road in the first place as it may be close to 360bhp anyway? Mine came out at 359.6 at Surrey Rolling Road last year.

What are those rolling road days like? I always thought it might be quite fun to have a group day and see whose car packs the most punch :)

Dunno. Went solo for mine but I think it depends on the bunch of people who turn up as you could end up waiting around for hours with little social benefit listening to the same flat six battering down the walls. Surrey RR is quite interesting as its on the old Qinetiq site where they used to some ballistics (bullets and stuff) testing and you can still see the pock marks in the walls of the cell where someone's fired off some rounds into it.
