I accidently stumbled into the fact my bluetooth does excellent voice recognition & has a second phone book! This is on a very recently built 2007 Z4 3.0i Premium pkg (includes on-board computer), standard BMW business CD radio, no Nav.
On the left of the wheel if you hold the face button until you hear a beep, you can say commands like:
HELP, CANCEL,CORRECTION, VERIFY, DIAL (number or name), STORE (name), DELETE (phonebook), CLEAR (phonebook), READ (phonebook), REDIAL.
If you say:
DIAL NUMBER the system asks for a number. You can say something like eight, zero, zero (then pause) it confirms what you said & asks for more numbers. You could have said the whole number, like 8005551212 and it would ask if you want to call that number. You have the option of cancelling some digits, but you need to play with it to see exactly how that works.
DIAL NAME the system asks for a phonebook name. This one's weird as it doesn't use the same phonebook that gets dowmloaded from my Treo650 & Razr. This seems to be a permanent phonebook, but is also pattern matching (not true voice recognition like DIAL NUMBER). If a different voice would try what you trained, it would not find it.
STORE NAME the system asks for a person's name (think it must be at least 2 syllables, HOME did not work, HOME PHONE worked).
READ PHONEBOOK the system plays back all the names you STORED and you can say DIAL right after one of them to dial it.
REDIAL, pretty self explanatory.
DELETE NAME, pretty easy.
CLEAR PHONEBOOK, I haven't tried this one yet.
In digging into this further, I found:
http://www.e38.org/BMW-03_00-Voice-Control-en.pdf that implies you can do more:
RECORD NOTE think may need NAV system for this.
VOLUME UP/DOWN, same as above.
Have any of you found other features?
Has anyone found a way to have the cell phone earphone/mic work instead of the car's bluetooth, once a call is in progress.
I also found if you have a call in progress & turn off the key, the bluetooth call continues.
FYI, on my passkey sheet, it says I have SW: 03.26, HW: 64, does anyone have any higher numbers? Anyone know if it can be flashed? Know how?
