Bluetooth prep

Checked the speck of my car and says it has Bluetooth preparation ,I've followed the instructions as posted on the forum but to no avail there is nothing comeing up on the headset and the phone says no device found (samsung ) it has the cradle fitted .
As it states only prep do I need to buy some kind of module or device to make it work ?
 
If the car is searching then I guess it must have BT installed and working :?

Is your phone discoverable?
 
The phone is searching then saying no device found ,the car isn't ,as nothing is appearing on the head set
 
If you haven't already, go through the process a few times, mine only connected on about the 7th attempt.

I second this, I had to keep trying before mine connected.
 
YES ME TOO, FIRST TIME OR TWO, NOTHING. THEN, BINGO, AND DIDNT DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT, EITHER, SO KEEP TRYING, GOOD LUCK :thumbsup:
 
If your specifications merely say 'S640A - Car Telephone Preparation', that is just the wiring and microphone for the phone system. It would list the phone installation as a separate option if the phone (bluetooth) module was installed.

What do you mean by the cradle is installed - do you have an actual snap-in adaptor for a phone, as well as the telephony buttons on the back of the console for pairing and for help? If you have those, you should have the phone module as well.

You can physically check for the phone module if still in doubt - it's behind the front piece of vertical carpet in the boot, on the left side.

UK cars don't come pre wired for BT unlike cars in USA and Canada, it's either all or nothing.

Interesting to know, thanks. I know they packaged and sold options differently for the different markets, but you'd think wiring 'prep' would be 'prep' regardless.
 
So does that mean I have Bluetooth ? As the cradle does have a snap on adaptor ,the spec does list as preparation

Uk cars all come Pre wired for cd changer and all have alarms. Where as I believe this isn't standard in the states.
 
Correct for alarm, was an option in North America. Not so sure about CD wiring. I believe it to exist in NA cars, though I haven't physically verified. No mention on the various sites selling iPod adapters and such that connect to CD wiring of not working with NA cars.

Sounds like OP should have BT based on existence of a cradle. "Prep" is misleading, as it typically means the supporting infrastructure is there, but not the actual device. As in CD prep or hardtop prep. As mentioned by WestCDA, the BT prep is probably listed as standard, much like CD or hardtop prep. There should be a separate listing for the actual module. A parallel analogy would be a car with a CD changer would still have CD prep listed as standard, but then have the CD changer listed as an installed option.

The other possibility is the module is present, but defective. Best thing to do is verify the module is present in the boot.
 
On my spec sheet bluetooth is listed as S644A - Preparation f mobile phone w Bluetooth

If you have it you should have a card with the passkey on and the instruction booklet to tell you how to pair.

Most of the guides on the internet are wrong about the pairing sequence . Pay particular attention to the key position in step 1. If you don't know your passkey it is printed on a sticker on the bluetooth module itself in the boot. Again most posts on the internet are wrong in that it is not quick or easy to read the key off the module as you will need to remove the carpet and other stuff to get near it. Allow yourself at least 45mins to an hour if you are going to attempt this and be careful of breaking carpet fasteners.

For pairing he instruction book I have says...

1. Press the button on the phone cradle for about one second and at the same time turn the ignition key to position 1

2. Release the button

3. "BLUETOOTH PAIRING" appears in the display or on the monitor if you have satnav

4. Your mobile phone should now react and ask for the 4 digit passkey

5. Enter the passkey on your phone

6. "PAIRING SUCCEEDED" appears in the display or on the monitor

You only need to do this once then it pairs automatically thereafter.
