Bluetooth Phone Pairing

Hey guys,

I'm having some trouble getting my phone to pair with my car (06-mcoupe)

I've followed these instructions:
1) Get in the car

2) Have your phone ready to search for new bluetooth devices but don't perform the search yet

3) Open the centre console

4) Now for the tricky bit ..... Turn the key to position 1 (where the flip up screen opens) WHILST ALSO holding the wee button in the console

5) The screen should open in telephone mode and say "Bluetooth Pairing"

6) Make your phone search, it will discover BMW25273 or similar

7) Enter passcode

Wait for a few minutes while the phonebook is uploaded (works with most phones)

9) Enjoy!!

However no love - is there something else i should be doing. I turn it to the position where the sat screen opens but then i dont get the pairing bit.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris,

could be the make of phone. My Nokia worked brilliantly with the car but my samsung is poor and sometimes fails to pair with the car.

I've had trouble with Samsung phones on many different car kits, always sounds rubbish. Now I stick with Nokia and Sony Ericsson. :(

That does look a nice phone, maybe they've improved the hands free side of things over the last couple of years. If no-one else is using one successfully I'd try it out before parting with your hard earned cash. :o

Is the bluetooth unit actually going into pairing mode? I find that's the tricky bit to get it to do that and have had to turn the ignition on and off a couple of times and press the pair button while doing that to make it happen.

I'd also set the phone searching at the same time and just keep asking it to research if it does not see the car first time.

Sorry if it seems a stupiod question but you do know the passcode is the 4 digit supplied number not one you make up??

Once paired that's part way, then you can see hjust what functionality is available

Hey guys thanks for the reply.

Yep jeeper i've got hte code from bmw.
And i think it is i cant get it into pairing mode. im holding the button and turning the ignition so that the screen pops up but it never goes tot that "bluetooth" pairing screen....

i've got an imate sp5 atm. however i will be getting a blackberry bold - anyone had any issues pairing them? also is there a cradle for htem we can get? (i know you can get cradles for various phones - figured there would be one for the blackberrys?)

I have the Samsung Tocco and it works perfectly with my Z4.

OK - so it's not the phone. more a case of the pair button is not tripping it into pairing mode. Try a few different combinations of igniotion position and holding the button.

Blackberries pair and work just fine. Both my older pearl and now curve work perfectly - in bound, outbound, address book, etc.

That is good to hear - my Tocco Ultra arrives today :D

yep i think its just something to do with the center console button not working. I'm taking it into bmw for a service tom and i'll get them to look at it and see if they can make it work. Should be covered under warranty if it doesnt i think. Also getting them to look at my mirrors :)

yey for blackberry working :) i'm going to pick up a bold sometime this week.

Cheers,

Chris

Having just done the pariing again last night with my new Tocco Ultra (yay it worked!) The procedure may be slightly different to what you describe...

my manual says:

Press and hold the button in the centre console for at least 3 seconds before turning the ignition to position 1 while keeping it pressed for a further 3 seconds...

just a thought?

hmm cheers i'll have a look at it and give it a shot. its going into the dealers tom morning so i'll let u know how i go if i cant get it working!

I had problems pairing a new phone using the correct procedure that I've used many times over the years. Turned out the bluetooth module was faulty and had to be replaced. I suspect that is what your problem is.

hey got it back from the maintenace work yesterday - turns out there was something wrong with the bluetooth wiring, they took it apart and all fixed now :)

mirrors are getting fixed as well so im stoked.
