Bluetooth: No sound but paired to stero

So I've been trying to get this bluetooth to work, got the phone paried to it after about 100 trys (iphone 4s). All the contacts show up on the screen and the steering wheel controls work ok.

But when I try to phone anyone using the bluetooth they cant hear me and I cant hear them (cant hear ringing aswell).

To me there must be a connection that is not connected, does anyone know where the connection for the speakers and mic are connected so I could check.

So any ideas whats going on.

Have a look on this thread for a post from mau, it has the Pinout from the HU

Just thought of something ,the previous owner fitted a aux cable to the stero would this have an affect. As maybe he disconnect the connection for the bluetooth :?

Shouldn't have needed to, but very possible. You'll see the phone input on Mau's diagram with the pin outs. It's in German but obvious enough

If the previous owner fitted aux but did nt combine the plugs but removed the existing then that could be the answer.

FWIW, there is a pin out in English with wire colours and sizes for all audio system versions:

I have this same issue. Can make a call using Bluetooth and the mfsw but sound comes from the phone and not the car. Did you get it resolved? I also have an aux input in the glove box. Is it easy to get behind and see if a connection is loose?

Anyone got any thoughts on this issue? Could it be the bluetooth module is faulty or could it be the wiring has been messed up when the aux input was installed? Wiring / electrics are not my strong point. The thread below looks like it may be useful.

Is this with an iPhone? IIRC Bing discovered a "gotcha" that if you use the phone swipe to answer, it uses the phone for sound, if you use the MFSW button it works. I could replicate this with my 4S.

In case Stuart's explanation isn't your issue and you still want to inspect the connections, access is easy if you know how to get to the hidden clips to release the centre vent, otherwise it's impossible. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=9016#p136039

It was with a Nokia Lumia 800. I haven't tried answering, only dialling out, and I can hear the sound is still coming through the phone

That sounds like the phone isn't handing over to the Bluetooth.

When parked up, make a call and see if the phone will transfer from handset to speaker to handset to car. It could be a simple compatibility issue.

Might also be worth un-pairing and re-pairing the phone, clearing all other pairings while at it as this has occasionally fixed weird issues before.

I've got exactly the same issue with mine! I ended up getting a parrot as I couldn't find an explanation anywhere!
As you described, contacts sync, make and receive calls, just no sound.
When you are parked up and make a call can you hear a 'very' feint voice of the receiver (person speaking with) from the rear bulk head? That's what I have.

One more question, how did you sync? How did you find the BT code to sync?

Mine would not let me sync for some reason pressing the button in the centre console but having the intravee, I kicked it in to BT pairing mode and wa able to connect. Code I found on the receiver in the boot.

Any pearls of wisdom would be fantastic!

Looks like my Lumia 800 may have been the issue, put the car in to pairing mode and linked with my work blackberry and it works fine. Can you have more than one phone paired to the car and will it recognise incoming calls from either? I upgraded the lumia 800 to a HTC One mini so hopefully this will work too.

I think you will find the car will only pair to one phone at a time. Some cars allow a priority order to be set.
