Blow out on the M6... :(

Left home at 5 this morning as had a 8 oclock meeting at Haydock Race Course (Manchester way). All went well, pumped up tyres and filled up at Corley service (just on M6), made good time and was planning to get there early and have a good chat with contacts. About 11 miles from destination... POP!! :(
Pulled over and the rear left had tyre wa flat as a pancake!
No worries I thought, I've always wanted to see how well tyre weld works! Got it out of the boot, read instructions and proceeded with what it said to do. The last one says 'drive immediately for 10-12 mines at a max speed of 30 mph' which I followed straight away down the hard shoulder.
"Services in 3 miles" I saw ahead! Brilliant I thought, I can try and pump up the tyre, get to my meeting then find a new tyre after.
Tried pumping up the tyre but NOTHING!! :headbang: quick google search found me a kwik fit and ATS so I hobbled 2.5 miles away to Warrington.
Arrived at 7:45, nothing open till 8:30 :headbang: was going to be late!

8:30 came, 'no sir we don't have that size tyre. But there is a sports tyre specialist down the road. Pull up to said sports tyre specialist and the cheapest set of rears was £252 a corner after discount!! Michelin sport tyres. I had no other choice! Parted with £504 for the two (other side was bald as a baby's bum)

Now sporting these on the rears...

Ended up an hour late but all turned out well in the end!! (My poor wallet! I won't even mention the Hard Top I have just bought...! :lol: )
 
Ouch! At least your alloy is ok, the car is ok and you are ok! Could have been nasty. Poor wallet though, however nice tyres :thumbsup:
 
The fact the other side was bald makes me think both were bald? Do you think that was the reason for the blow out and the tyre weld not working?

Probably didn't help it! :( it had been on my to do list for a little while now to change the rears, just didn't fancy being forced into it and having to take the only tyres available!!
 
ah well, you got off lucky, a blow out could have caused a lot more damage or even worse a fatality, maybe some points if the police caught you, id take a lack of tyre choice and a hurt wallet over all of those!
 
That mark on the shoulder looks like it's been rubbing on the arch.

Are you sure the rubbing didn't contribute to your tyre failure?
 
Damn Luke, that sucks... Im seriously worried about blow outs with my stupidly stretched tyres. swings and roundabouts though.
 
The tyre shape is a little different from what i had on before. The walls are a little more square than the Dunlops i had before. Will pull the arches out a little more to stop it!
 
prety much had the same happen to me! got a nail in the back passenger side! kwik fit wouldnt repair it as normal and wanted £230 something a corner! ended up calling my local tyre guy who sorted me out 2 Yangkang NS2s for £200 plus fitting a new bolts. i know they are not suppose to be great tryes but even under heavy speeds and me purposefully trying to get the back end out or even the traction control light to come on ive yet to manage it!
