bleeding coolant system

I replaced the expansion tank today and bled the system. It was my first time bleeding the system so I just wanted to make sure I bled it all the way. Seemed like forever with bubbles before I think all the air was out. I capped the bleeder screw when it seemed to be done when plenty of coolant was coming out and the level indicator ways going down in accordance with what was coming out from the bleeder hole so topped it off there and plugged the bleeder screw back in.
Does that sound about right for all the air to be out when I capped it?
 
How many times did you go through the bleed procedure?

If you’re unsure do it again, it won’t do it any damage. Just remember to connect the car to power so as not to drain the battery.

I’ve only gone through it once but I had run it at idle and at operating temp while it bled
 
Firstly, what model/engine do you have as the bleed procedure differs between them if they have an electric water pump.

Secondly, is the heater hot, as in properly hot? The return pipe from the matrix will just be warm if there is any air in there. Because the matrix return is higher than the radiator, it makes them a bitch to bleed. Elec water pump models should be filled using a vacuum filler system as per bmw tis, and then the automated bleed procedure run with the engine off and the car attached to a battery support unit.

Non elec pump cars also benefit from being filled whilst under vacuum, and then parked nose up on an incline whilst bleeding.

It’s a 03 2.5i m54 I have it on ramps with the video mentioning the incline I figured I’d have it up that way but I didn’t check it running the heater though.

I normally put the M54 into a 1500rpm idle once filled, using diagnostic kit. With the cap removed, if all of the air is gone, at that engine speed you should see a steady jet of water from the nearside just inside the top of the expansion tank. If it is intermittent there is still air in there.
