Blasting away local yoof at traffic lights

First bit of abuse/pisstaking today in my new Zed :D

On my way back from Manchester airport and some local wrong'uns in a pimped up old Golf GTI pulled beside me. Wound down their windows and shouted something sarcastic and started revving their engine.

Lights turned amber, then green, then 3 seconds later they were just a speck in my mirror :driving:

I know it sounds daft to say a roaster can be a "stealth" car but in the case of the 3.0 I reckon there's an argument for it. It looks like a pretty roadster, and most of those cars are little more than posing shopmobiles (sorry MX5/TT owners...) and while the M looks a lot beefier the 3.0 doesn't, yet can't half shift.

Made my day anyway

Top spec MR2 does 0-60 in 7.7, the 2.0 Z4 is only .2 of a second away, but has a higher top speed and packs more bhp.

When you're talking about that sort of margins it's all in the driver 8)

The MR2 is lovely :x . I just fancied a change !

Opinion I guess, but even with the Zed I get stick from friends for having a girls car :D (Clearly jealous) I would have to pass on the MR2!

According to the stats I read, the 2.0i does it in 8.2, which equals 0.5 seconds. Incidentally, all spec MR2 Mk3 standard 1.8 vti did it in that time. However, the MR2 was much faster in the initial take off speed, whereas I find the zed only really starts when you get it over 3,5000 revs. Also, re: packing more bhp - it's also a little fatty weight wise compared to the MR2 which weighs under a tonne and therefore needs less bhp.
There is no doubt that the zed is a brill car, but that doesn't mean I have to rubbish the MR2.

P.s. you should see an MR2 with a turbo which is insane !

I was tempted by a MR2 roadster. But i was planing on supercharging or but a v6 in it for shock value at the lights

I wouldn't rubbish the performance at all! Just not a fan of the looks personally

The 2.0 does 0-60 in 7.9 according to this:

I came from a mk3 MR2 as well - I don't think there was really much in it performance wise - both were quick enough if you kept your foot down

OfficiaToyota stats say 7.7. Anyway, not the real point I was making. Point was about weight/bhp ratio and revs needed to really get 2.0i going.

You'd be surprised how many on here are at some time in their life ex MR2 owners.

... time to add yourself nondizzyblonde & as for light racing, always favoured the wry smile, let the car slightly roll forward before the light change, a little light rev... then take off ever so slowly, making sure the nob sees you giving a piss taking wave in their rear view mirror...
