ok so this cderror deal is bothering me too much.

first of all i have the factory navigation unit and hifi stereo
i removed the vent and pulled out the head unit and noticed black electrical tape wrapped around a black wire that plugs into the rear right courner of the head unit.

im planning on soldering this wire since electrical tape is not my idea of a quality job.

its a thin black wire and seems to be a single copper wire insulated and wrapped with wire mesh.....what is this wire?

what the hell was the previous owner of my Z thinking?

i wish i could... my digi cam got wet over the weekend so its non operational

but if you pull out the head unit there is a large harness with a million wires coming out of it on the left side... then there is a single black wire on the right side. this is the black wire im tlaking about. there is a break in it and lots of cheap electrical tape wrapped around it.

im guessing its the antenna wire? but if it is why would the previous owner cut it?

Am 99% sure it is the antenna... I am in work now so can't really go and remove the headunit right now, sorry.

That is the GPS aeriel. The cable will go behind the instrument panel where the (magnetic) aeriel itself is.

May have been cut as the wire is quite long

ok yes it is the antenna...

there is a copper insulated wire in the middle, then it is surrounded by a wire mesh.

you NEED to solder the copper wire then insulate it. then solder the wire mesh and insulate that too.

i dont know much about satillite radio but im assuming they tapped into the factory antenna wire, which is the reason for the break in the connection.

thanks for the help fellows

It's just not fair.....you hook up a wire and it's your antenna and things work perfect......I hook up a wire and galaxies collide, time and space warp, planets explode!!!! :o :o :o
